I am an experienced computer troubleshooter, but this latest problem has me scratching my head a bit since the most obvious troubleshooting solutions don't seem to be yielding any kind of positive results for me. As a result, I would like to present my
case to the Microsoft Answers community to see if any of you can provide me with some helpful suggestions or insight. I have a Compaq Evo N620c laptop with Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit installed on it. It has worked flawlessly for years and
up until now it hasn't given me any trouble. After working perfectly fine the day before, when I powered it on one morning it failed to boot into Windows with the following erro

My desktop has windows xp media center edition with Sp3 and for years it has run well, and maybe it's time to junk it, however my laptop has windows vista, which I dont like, I have seen windows 7 and am not fond of it either, so what can I do? when I load
up the system restore disks it only loads up to a point where it says it is copying files, then tells me the restore is completed. When booting up again I am told the file "<windows root>\system32\hal.dll" is corrupt or missing, and to reinstall. it,. How
do I do that? Thanks for any help.

I added memory to a Windows XP Pro machine and found that the system was almost out of space! After investigating this issue found the Installer file in the Windows folder was over 30 gig all by itself, files in this folder date back to the original installation
of Windows. How do I clean this file?

Windows XP SP3: Missing ASMS file
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

Hi,
I ran a Spybot scan the other day on my Win XP Sp3 desktop, this identified about half a dozen problems. Instead of looking at the report on each one I foolishly clicked to get rid of them all. One was a System32 file and now I can't get into my desktop at all. The message which showed when I first booted up after the Spybot scan was:
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\Command.com - The parameter is incorrect".
Having searched for a solution on my netbook I found advice to reinstall the OS from my CD which I did but partway through was presented with a screen telling me that the file "asms" on Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2CD was needed, and to type the path where the file is located, which was shown as GLOBALROOT\DEV

What is the maximum NTFS file size in Windows XP?

We use an Adaptec 31205 RAID Controller with a 4 TB RAID 0 on a Windows XP Service Pack 2 computer. Running Windows XP Service Pack 2, we can write and read files greater than 2 TB. But when we upgrade to Service Pack 3, we can no longer read the files.
We use a C++ program that writes and reads the files. Under XP Service Pack 3, the ReadFile function fails with the following error: "Not enough storage is available to process this command." Adaptec offers no help. They say Windows XP does not support
files over 2 TB in size, even though their RAID Controller works fine with files over 2 TB under Windows XP Service Pack 2.

File in use cancels copy (Windows XP)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
September 3, 2008
When I make a copy of a folder that has a "file in use", such as the Windows , Documents & Settings or Symantec folder, when the copy process reaches the file that is in use it cancels the copy process.
It would be nice if it gave me a warning message, but instead of canceling the copying of all other files that haven't been copied as yet, it would continue and copy the rest of the files.
Is there a way to set up Windows XP to do this?
Thanks,
BH
