Windows XP SP3: Missing ASMS file
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

Hi,
I ran a Spybot scan the other day on my Win XP Sp3 desktop, this identified about half a dozen problems. Instead of looking at the report on each one I foolishly clicked to get rid of them all. One was a System32 file and now I can't get into my desktop at all. The message which showed when I first booted up after the Spybot scan was:
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\Command.com - The parameter is incorrect".
Having searched for a solution on my netbook I found advice to reinstall the OS from my CD which I did but partway through was presented with a screen telling me that the file "asms" on Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2CD was needed, and to type the path where the file is located, which was shown as GLOBALROOT\DEV

Windows XP Compatibility Mode missing on a fresh install of Windows 8?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
December 8, 2012
So, I just did a fresh install of Windows 8 Professional (got a nasty little bug that was wasting resources left and right) and came to notice, this time around, Windows XP Compatibility Mode is now missing from my options in the list. It's required to
use a program I use often and, before the reinstall, the program worked without a problem (obviously when I had it set to compatibility mode). Is there a way to bring back XP compatibility mode in Windows 8? I should add, the previous install was an upgrade
from Windows 7 to Windows 8.

My desktop has windows xp media center edition with Sp3 and for years it has run well, and maybe it's time to junk it, however my laptop has windows vista, which I dont like, I have seen windows 7 and am not fond of it either, so what can I do? when I load
up the system restore disks it only loads up to a point where it says it is copying files, then tells me the restore is completed. When booting up again I am told the file "<windows root>\system32\hal.dll" is corrupt or missing, and to reinstall. it,. How
do I do that? Thanks for any help.

Hi Everyone,
First of all whoever could fix this problem, I will be very thankful as I have done everything to fix the problem, but yet no success! This has been going on for 3 days and I googled every possible answer that was written.
Everything was working fine until 3 days ago! I have not removed/deleted any kind of program or software. All of a sudden I was unable to listen or hear any videos/music on youtube or facebook. I was unable to listen to a radio online. But meantime
I was able to listen to my cd’s or mp3 songs on my hardrive. (so, internet based music was not coming thru)
So, what did I do so far?
1) I went to “start menu, control panel, sound and audio devices” and saw that the option "place vo

HELP everyone!!!!!!!!! This is Nancy (Mystcal1) not on her computer. Something happened after I cleared my hard drive to give me more space. The screen resolution was only 4 bit and I didn't know what happened so I decided to do a non-destructive recovery. This is what I get now NTLDR IS COMPRESSED PRESS CONTROL ALT DELETE TO RESTART, but when I do that it just keeps coming back to the same error message. I cannot afford to do a full recovery because I have business documents in there that I have not backed up. I have 7 cd roms from Hewlett Packard, and I do not know which one can help me find the NTLDR file to put it back. I don't have the Windows XP Home Edition CD Rom because the computer is OEM. I am an experienced computer troubleshooter, but this latest problem has me scratching my head a bit since the most obvious troubleshooting solutions don't seem to be yielding any kind of positive results for me. As a result, I would like to present my

up until now it hasn't given me any trouble. After working perfectly fine the day before, when I powered it on one morning it failed to boot into Windows with the following erro

My Dell Laptop Inspirion 9300 is was running Windows XP with Service Pack 3. It suddenly stop booting up. I got the error on screen very early in the boot cycle: <windows root>\system32\hal.dll. I called Norton for help - I am using Norton Ghost to back
