Help a noob write a batch file to restart print spooler (and address admin issue)
location:

I have never written a batch file before or done any programming; so I am using this opportunity to hopefully address an ongoing issue we are running into with the new PCs at my company while simultaneously getting my feet wet in this area.
We have a bunch of new PCs running Windows 8. HP has not yet released updated drivers yet. Therefore, some of our printers will sporadically stop working for no apparent reason. We have found that restarting the Spooler usually resolves the issue (at least
until it happens again...)
I found a batch file online that does this (see below); and, I think I understand more or less how it works. However, when I try to run it, the system says "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied." I'm assuming

Windows XP cannot print to Windows 7 shared printer
location:
microsoft.com - date:
June 2, 2010
I recently upgraded my Windows XP computer to Windows 7. This computer was acting as a print server for 4 other computers in the house, all of them XP sp3. However, now that I've upgraded the print server to Win7 and installed the 64-bit drivers, none
of the XP computers can print to the printer (Canon i850).
The problem seems to be that the Windows 7 machine has installed 64-bit drivers in order to print to the printer, and these are unusable by the Windows XP machines. On the Win7 computer, I attempt to also install the x86 drivers (under the Printer Properties
-> Sharing tab) so that the 32-bit Windows XP machines can print, but of course the Win7 machine won't let me because it's not a 32-bit OS.&

Windows XP will not transfer zip file to thumb drive
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
December 17, 2011
I have a computer with Windows XP Pro SP3 installed on it, and I'm trying to transfer a rather large ~5GB folder to my thumb drive, with is 16GB in size, and is formatted as FAT 32. The trouble is, while XP does copy the folder without issue, when I zip the folder (which saves about 500MB) and then attempt a transfer, it gives me the "insufficient disk size" error, although I do have plenty of space on the thumb drive.
Is this error due to the FAT32 4GB file size limit? Is a zip folder treated as an individual file, and thus unable to transfer, being too big, while the unzipped folder is transferred via individual file? If so, then I can always transfer the folder, and then zip it on the thumb drive, right? Or would that still

Many times my printer just stops working. Up until yesterday I was able to restart the print spooler close the computer and the printer would restart. Yesterday, the printer vanished. I had to install the printer again, but I was never able to Add a Printer,
because of the Print Spooler. I keep getting the Print Spooler 1053 Error.
Can anyone explain this issue and help correct it?
Thanks.

My Dell Laptop Inspirion 9300 is was running Windows XP with Service Pack 3. It suddenly stop booting up. I got the error on screen very early in the boot cycle: <windows root>\system32\hal.dll. I called Norton for help - I am using Norton Ghost to back
