location:

My desktop has windows xp media center edition with Sp3 and for years it has run well, and maybe it's time to junk it, however my laptop has windows vista, which I dont like, I have seen windows 7 and am not fond of it either, so what can I do? when I load
up the system restore disks it only loads up to a point where it says it is copying files, then tells me the restore is completed. When booting up again I am told the file "<windows root>\system32\hal.dll" is corrupt or missing, and to reinstall. it,. How
do I do that? Thanks for any help.

Upgrade XP 32 bit to windows XP 64bit or 7 64bit - Still available?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
January 21, 2013
Hey,
I'm looking to upgrade my current Windows XP 32 bit to a 64 bit OS without going to windows 8. I have a video editing program which only works in 64 bit versions of windows, my PC is compatible :)
My reasons for not going to 8 are: Some of my vital software is not compatible and I've tried it on a friends computer and didn't like it.
So the question is, can I access Windows XP 64bit as an upgrade from Microsoft? I could go to 7 but really, xp64 is more then enough. I have seen full versions of xp64 for sale online but they are full price (unlike 8 which is only $39.99)
Thanks in advance.
Dan

Windows XP repair, or re-install?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
October 19, 2012
My boyfriend accidentally erased some files on his computer (he can't remember what he did) and now he's experiencing the following problems:
1. Internet Explorer will not open. Cannot get on the internet. (Network is connected, no problem with connection)
2. When we tried to do a system restore, nothing happens when we click on "system restore".
I believe he may have deleted some system files or drivers. We don't have any discs to repair or re-install Windows XP. Can I re-install Windows XP if I purchase a re-installation disc? or Would a Boot System Recovery disc fix this? I'm not sure how to go
about replacing the lost files.
