How to create restore point in windows 7
location:

Thanks, KevinOneill !
With such a great feature, I fail to understand why Microjunk makes it so hard to find how to do great things. Instead of a simple clickable spot on the screen, you have to hunt and peck for hours to never find it, and then spend hours on the net to find an
answer. Sometimes I wish I had never gone to 64 bit, because all the drivers for my canon pro camera are now unusable also. I am VERY tempted to go back to XP. Also where did the dual boot option go???

Windows Xp Sp3 System Restore Points Vanishing
location:
microsoft.com - date:
December 7, 2012
Without warning all my System restore points have vanished.
I have checked all the obvious reasons (lack of disc space etc)
I can still set a restore point manually but when I do it disappears at next boot and I am back to no restore points
Anyone in the community seen this behaviour before ?
Is there a known fix ?
I need my system restore to be working properly as over the years I have had to resort to using it on more than one occassion
Any help would be much appreciated

Shortcut to Create Restore Point
location:
7forums.com - date:
October 22, 2009
Hello all:
I just migrated from XP to Windows 7 and am trying to get used to the changes. In XP I had a shortcut in my start menu that took me to the System Restore app. In XP this app covered both creating a restore point and performing an actual restore. In Windows 7 they are separate. The shortcut info in XP was: target:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Restore\rstrui.exe start in:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Restore
I did a search for rstrui.exe (in Windows 7) and ran it. It took me to the System Restore app that performs a restore. I'm looking for a link that takes me to the app that is for creating a restore point.
I know very well that I can get to this via the control panel, but I would like to have a link in the start menu that takes me there di

Windows Xp Sp3 System Restore Points Vanishing
location:
microsoft.com - date:
December 7, 2012
Ok now we know for sure
At 18:35 (uk time) Xp applied another 'system checkpoint'
All my carefully preserved restore points of today disappeared leaving just the new system checkpoint,.
So the problem occurs whenever Xp applies a system restore point and does not involve any conflict or existing program
You said Xp only applied a system checkpoint once in 24 hours.
Today there have been two (still 12 hours left in a 24 hour day)
On both occasions all existing restore points disappeared
Over to you

create restore point at startup
location:
7forums.com - date:
April 22, 2011
When using XP I could add a shortcut to rstrui.exe in the startup\program file which would create a restore point every startup. I found this very convenient as I often need to backtrack when playing with configurations and stuff. I cannot do this in Windows 7 .
Does anybody know how it can be done ??

Computer won't create restore point
location:
7forums.com - date:

I am running Win 7 64bit OS on my computer. When I try to create a restore point, the computer goes through the process and displays a message saying the restore point was created. But then when I try to use the restore point, I get an error telling me there are no restore points on my computer.
As far as I can tell, all the config settings are correct and my drive has 853 gig of free disk space so I don't think thats the problem. Any thoughts?

Windows XP 2002 System Restore and Cannot Update Windows
location:
microsoft.com - date:
March 19, 2013
Hello, have an older XP computer and had to restore system to original state. No install disk.... computer came loaded with Windows XP 2002 - Service Pack 2. Had a problem with Unmountable_Boot Volume and the only way to solve the issue was to use this
function available to restore the system.
Since doing so am unable to update Windows XP. Know I have to install SP3 and not sure if there are any other updates needed before doing this.. Automatic Updates is not working and cannot update windows directly from the Windows site. Have upgraded the Browser
to IE8... is this a problem?...
Need some help as to "how" to get this computer updated... don't know what order to do it in, etc...
Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.
