.NET framework causes login required on XP (Windows XP home)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
September 18, 2003
Not sure if this is a question for this forum or XP, so I'm going to post in both places.
I recently installed a 3rd party application that required the .NET framework to be installed. I downloaded from Microsoft and installed it, along with the application. Now whenever I start XP I get the user login screen, with my user name, since I'm the only user. In the User Profiles I now find that as well as me, as administrator, and a currently un-enabled Guest profile, there's also a profile for ASP.NET. It's a password protected profile so I don't know if I can alter it, but I'd really rather that XP started cleanly without the user sign-on screen.
Any Ideas?

Suddenly No Sound (Windows XP SP2)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
November 21, 2004
I just noticed that my sound is not working. I have Creative SB Live and all connections to speakers etc are ok. There are no ! in Device Manager and I even uninstalled the device and let XP reinstall it but still no sound. I think this is new and wonder if Zone Alarm firewall could be the problem. I still am trying to understand all the warnings etc that ZA gives but it seems there is a relatively frequent one about a win32 device [not very helpful, I know]. I am at a loss as to what to try. I checked all the things in the Windows troubleshooter. Any ideas?
TIA

No link to LAN (Windows XP Pro SP1)
location:

I have a Compaq Evo D510 Convertible Minitower running WXP Pro SP1 that won't link to my office LAN.
This computer formerly worked fine but recently had a motherboard exchange because of faulty video chip (no output) and now has network problems (won't link to LAN).
Although under Device Manager, the NIC is listed without any problems there is no sign of the ethernet 10/100 connection in Start/Settings/Network Connections and there should be (only the 1394 card is listed). There is no icon in the notification area of the taskbar to indicate a cable is plugged in and there should be because a cable is plugged in and its linked into a switch and the switch indicator light is green (the switch is new and another PC is successfully linked to t

Folder won't Delete w/ no error (Windows XP SP2)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
January 29, 2008
I have an interesting problem that isn't hindering at all but more just annoying. I recently changed the name of a folder containing my music but for some reason it created a new folder while keeping the old folder. So of course I deleted the old folder. It disappeared... but then seconds later, reappeared in the same location it was before. The folder has another folder in it which does the exact same thing and neither folder has an data in it (including hidden folders). I am not getting an error message and it IS deleting, but then reappearing every time.
Is there a solution?
Thanks,
-Ben
