I've been saying for weeks now that "Win 8 is ok, but I'm just not excited about it in the same way that I was aboutn 7, and I can't figure out why."
I had put it down to the fact that I REALLY like 7, and so I was just grumbling at having to learn a new way of doing things, but today it hit me why.
Windows 8 makes me less productive. It's not even (directly) Metro's fault. As an example, I should not have to google how to shut an OS down. It should be obvious. To quote John, "I hope it reacts well to having the power cable pulled, because that's what's going to happen".

location:

I recently plugged in an USB Kyocera laser printer into my Windows 7 notebook and a printer driver was installed automatically. Fine.
How can I find out now the exact driver version of this printer?
When I go to
Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers
and right click on the installed printer icon and select "printer properties" from context menu then I find NOWHERE a tab with the printer driver version number.
How else can I find it out?

I am new to windows 8 and can't find list of Programs
location:

March 20, 2013
My old computer died and I have purchased a Samsung Laptop with Windows 8. I can't find a listing of programs like I use to have with Windows Vista which I could access on lower left of screen. In fact how do I access all of the information that
could be located at this location? So far the only location I have been able to even find a listing of program is in control panel and all you can do there is uninstall/change. I sure would appreciate some help. Windows 8 leaves a lot to be desired.
