I am running Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3. What is the latest Windows Installer release that I should be using ... 4.5 ? or 5.0 ?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
September 10, 2012
I religiously run Microsoft Update once each day ... even though I have this set to Automatic Updates. I don't understand why Windows/Microsoft doesn't appear to update the Windows Installer "automatically". How do I proceed to update Windows Installer "manually"?
Please help - without the latest Windows Installer version/release, I am finding that certain of my proprietary software programmes will not update due to my current Windows Installer prventing the ".exe" file from running and installing. Most aggravating!

Programs running in Windows XP sort/display drives by size; Windows My Computer by Drive Letter
location:
microsoft.com - date:
December 22, 2012
When using an installed program in Windows XP to open or search for a file, Drive Letters are arranged by size. Clicking to display them by Name only works for the particular instance being used. As soon as this is done, the check-mark returns to Arrange
/Files/Drives by Size. Folder Option and View resets and repeated corrections have not resolved this problem. When opening My Computer, the Drives are arranged correctly by Letter. How can this incorrect display in installed programs be corrected to retain
the checked preference of Arrange Files/Drives by Name in installed programs when they open My Computer?
NOTE: There are two 2-tb internal WD harddrives and one 2-tb WD external harddrive; each divided into four partitions of 500 g

How to lock out a modem? (Windows XP Pro, fully patched)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
January 24, 2005
I have two modems on my system. One is an internal WinModem on my main phone line. The other is an External modem on my line 2 ( for internet). The problem I'm having is that, even though I have the external modem set for my ISP dial up, on occasion the system does not detect it, and automatically reverts to the internal WinModem and dials out. (locking up my main phone line). Is there any way to lock out that modem so the system cannot use it without first ASKING? I use it on occasion for faxing out on my main line while still online on line 2, so I don't want to take it out, I just don't want the bloody system to use it for internet dial up, unless it's an emergency and I specifically WANT it to.

of Windows. How do I clean this file?
