I just upgraded Windows 8 to Windows 8 Profession to enable remote desktop and when I go to the System Properties->Remote and Allow remote connections to the computer, the Select Users button does not enable.
I can't figure out how to add users for remote access.
Any ideas?

Remote desktop access to Windows 7 from 2008 R2
location:

I am logged in to Server 2008 R2 and attempting to logon to a Windows 7 Pro workstation using Remote Desktop. If the account I use to log on to the Win 7 machine has Domain Admin privileges, I can log on successfully. If I use an account lacking Domain Admin privileges, I cannot log in.
But I need to log on without Domain Admin privileges for the tests I need to run.
I tried making the account a member of Remote Desktop Users group, but that had no effect.
I tried running gpedit.msc and adding the account to Local Computer Policy\Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Allow logon through Remote Desktop" and running gpudate /force, but still could not logon to the workst

How can I repair my Windows XP registry if I cannot access my repair\software file?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
October 9, 2012
Hi, I got the blue screen of death on my laptop. The message was that my config/software file was missing or corrupt.
Using an XP cd and the recoverI am following the instructions in this microsoft support article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 to backup and copy new files from my repair directory. I was able to do all of them except the software file. I'm getting
a message that it is not in the repair folder. Can I access this software file from either my XP install cd or another location so I can fix this and get my computer up and running again?
Thanks!

laptop can access it remotely? I have located the IPv4 on the desktop but when I enter it into the laptop, it says no access available.

My windows 8 will not recognise my external device (Satnav) which is 18 months old and was registered on my windows XP. How can I enable its recognition on windows 8 so that I can update the maps?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
May 28, 2013
Ive tried to download software to enable the satnav to be recognised by my new computer system but it doesn't work. I got as far as clicking on 'Install' , a message window opened saying "please wait one moment", nothing happened and I waited 1/2 an hour
but the message remained on the screen and nothing else happened. I tried the process several times without any success. Does this mean that I am not going to be able to update my satnav maps?
