Why is my DELL Windows XP Pro product key rejected?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
April 21, 2013
I just made a fresh installation on one of my old home PCs (used only for web browsing) of Windows XP Professional. I entered the key from Windows XP Professional DELL Product key sticker and it gets rejected every single time. Is this possibly because
I did not install windows from the same media? (because I do not have it anymore...)
Sincerely.

Purchased Windows 8 download but it won't install by product key method- Windows XP to Windows 8
location:

Purchased a digital copy of the new Windows 8 ap and tried to install per instructions for those wishing to use only a product key, but no luck - dead in the water. Because my computer is running old Windows XP Pro, I searched the community forum for answers
before buying online, because running the Update Assistant gave me an error message: 'this platform not supported'. Microsoft's page for ordering Windows 8 states I can upgrade Windows XP to Windows 8, so I was confused about the error message.
I found a number of threads online regarding this issue, and read through all, in an effort to understand precise steps for upgrading XP Pro to Windows 8. These steps included -

How do I activate Windows 8 64 bit Upgrade (clean install) using my old XP 32 bit key?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
February 9, 2013
I bought the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade when it was on sale and installed the 64 bit version (clean installation - formatted the HDD). I'm trying to activate the OS using my XP Home 32 bit key but it won't let me activate. I get the message "we couldn't verify
this key, so try a different one". Is the problem that XP is still being recognized as being used for a previous installation? What's the best way to activate Windows 8 with this key? Thank you.

Hi,
So i have a few windows xp keys they are all pro keys. They all came off old machines i was throwing away. Those machines used a 32bit install of xp (though they did support 64bit) So i was wondering if i could use that same key for installing windows xp 64bit on a different computer using that OEM/COA key of those machines? And yes i do have a x64 windows xp install disc.
Thanks

First of all this is an HONEST request as I know some may view it as not.........How can I find the Microsoft product key code in the registry? I really do need some help. My son's Toshiba Laptop computer is eaten up virus's big time and the hard drive needs to be reformatted and the software needs to be installed to the original store bought condition. I know that there is a hidden partition with the re-install software on it, However in view of the fact that it is so badly eaten up with virus's, I'm afraid the hidden partition is also eaten up with virus's too.......The Windows Vista desktop can not be put back in original condition, as well as the other software on the laptop even with AVG antivirus software as well as other free softwa

Downgrade License Key to install image of Windows XP Pro
location:

Hello,
I have purchased 4 additional whitebox workstations from my vendor. He said they only can get Windows 7 licences and got them for us. We run a Windows SBS domain with about 60 XP Pro workstations. The new workstations all have the same MB as some previous purchases
and we have 'images' for these machines on our network. I often have to change out a workstation with another due to software or other issues, so, at this time, I do not want Windows 7 on one machine that I have to train someone on if I have to switch out
their machine.
How can I and/or can I 'image' the machines with XP Pro and use the Windows 7 key to activate the OS?
I do not want to go through the pro
