I have a 5 year old gateway laptop that recently got a Blue Screen Of Death. I backed up all the data already. When I boot from the Operating systems Disk, it tells me "press R for recovery options" so I press R, then it loads up all the way [the bar fills
up] till the 'Please Wait' then freezes. Help!
update: I wanna thank everybody helped me, especially elizabeth because she stuck w/ me.
a recap of what i did: i burned memtest on a blank cd, booted it from that cd on my bad computer, ran the memtest, and saw that my memory had a whole bunch of errors.
Then i went online & found a new ram (same size, and i looked my model # specifically.) and ordered it
I replaced my old ram chip w/ my new one & now it works just

Windows XP user account password
location:

I have three user accounts on my Windows XP. I haven't used the PC for about 12 months as I had purchased a laptop with Vista. Now when I go to log into my user it's asking for a password. I have forgotten my password & cannot see an icon providing
me with a password hint. This is the same for the other user account & the third account is a guest account which is accessible. I have docs & itunes on the users which passwords are being asked for. Can you provide me with a solution to this problem please.
Is there a password hint button??

Windows 7 starting up in recovery console
location:
microsoft.com - date:
June 7, 2010
When starting up I am shown the installation recovery screen. It fails to automatically repair it.
I've tried using all of the bootrec.exe and bootsect.exe options to find and restore the installation but it is not found. I know the data itself is intact, how do I go about manually restoring the mbr? I assume that's what I need to do.

Stuck In Windows XP Recovery Console
location:
7forums.com - date:

Hi All
I hope one of you can help me!
I have a computer that I upgraded from XP to Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) Recently it started freezing erratically at completely random times. I managed to boot into safe mode at it worked fine. In there I made some changes to the start up in the system config, somehow I must have done something in there that screwed everything up!
Every time I start my computer it loads to windows xp recovery console. I cannot use this as the administrator password does not work. I cannot choose windows as an option when I boot to the startup options menu, only recovery console shows as available operating systems.
I have tried repairing/replacing the mbr with both bootrec and bootsect to no avail. Startup repair
