PC 32bit Windows 7 Ultimate Windows Update does not work What I did for diagnose and solving the problem: 1. System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) Error: errorcode0x80070424 The service is not installed. With fixit this is solved the 32 bit update is installed pc restarted 2. SFC Scan Command Prompt Run as Administrator sfc /scannow Scan notifies there are problems that could not be fixed 3. Windows Update Via Start/Configuration: Windows Update Error: at this moment there cannot be searched for updates, because the Windows Update -service is not active. Probably you have to restart your computer. (no error code) Restarting pc does not help. 4. CBS.zip The CBS log created by sfc /scannow is attached 5. Checking services: Run: Services.msc

Windows Update Service Not Running Error Windows Update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running a restart may be required This is an Acer Iconia W500 Windows 7 Pro 32-bit tablet PC. Automatic Windows Updates worked for a while then quit working with the error posted in the subject. The system is running Symantec Endpoint Protection v 12.1.761.4971 and I have insured that the usual problematic advanced settings of "Enable OS fingerprint masquerading" and "enable stealth mode browsing" are turned off. I attempted the automatic Windows "fixit" function with no sucess. I have verified that the required services as outlined in other posts on this same topic are indeed running.

Hello, I am having a problem with my new Windows 8 ultrabook. Windows update were not happening so i checked the windows update section of the control panel. It was set to 'Automatically install updates' but when i checked for updates i was getting an error. I used the Windows update troubleshooter and it did some fixes and then when i checked the Windows update section it asked me to restart the system. I did the restart but nothing happened. I checked the Windows update service and it was in stopped mode, when i tried to start the service it crashed. It keeps crashing whenever i try to start it. I checked and BITS was in 'running' state. Hello. Whenever I try to run Windows Update it comes up with a dialogue box that says "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." I believe my computer is Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit. I've tried a lot of the fixes that have been posted, but none of them worked. I tried running an SFC (I think that's what it was called, sorry I'm not very computer smart), rebooting my computer, and doing a system restore. Also, Windows Update doesn't show in services.msc. hello i have a problem on a laptop i have. I formated it using a windows 7 premiem install cd. i was about to do some updates and for some reason it says that the service is running. I went to go check into the services and it was running so a stop and re-enable it nothing. its the same thing with windows defender. I did a disk check but still nothing. I did a system restore to and nothing So both services are running but it says its not running.

Original Title -windows defender problem getting error code 0x80070424 which keeps program in a frozen state. can't uninstall, no response at all. affecting my primary antivirus program, can't turn on antivirus monitoring until windows defender is either removed or functioning properly. Tried updated install-no luck. tried admin priveleges to remove win.defender, no luck. Bitdefender antivirus pro 2011 is my primary security program. All windows firewall off. little advise please!
