I came across this statement from a user in another forum.
Is the statement correct ?
If no, please briefly explain.
If possible, please provide link to this subject.
Thank you.
Topic : Key finder programs to help finding product key that is un-readable.
Statement quote ......
Product Key Finder Programs are USELESS for Preinstalled Vista Computers, as they only find the Manufacturers Factory Installation Product Key, which is used for mutiple installations during Computer Manufacturing.

Windows product key puzzle
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

I decided to install MS Giant beta on my recently purchased laptop, and went through the Windows authentication process. I tried using the product key on the sticker on the machine, but it was not accepted. Used both Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder and Windows Key Finder, and came up with another two completely different key numbers. It is a Dell Inspiron laptop and came with an OS reinstallation CD. At the moment it isn' t a problem, but if future MS, updates etc require authentication, it will be.
Am unable to find the product key via regedit as suggested on several sites. Running Windows XP Home SP2 on the laptop.
I am curious about the different numbers identified, and would appreciate any suggestions on determining the correct key.

Changing Windows Product Key (XP Pro SP3)
location:

I've been trying to help somebody out here, without much success. His computer history is:
<LI>Installed XP Pro with SP2 upgrade - June 2006 from CD (which he still has)
<LI>Motherboard died and tech installed some fresh copy of XP 2002 (he has no CD for this)
<LI>Updated to SP3 using redistributable versionHe is being hit with the "not a genuine copy" notice, so I've tried to change his product key back to the original on his CD. This is rejected as being incorrect for the installed version. His legit version was "upgrade". Microsoft phone support were quite aloof and of no help, saying that they would need to know what the tech had installed. Said tech has since gone out of business and is nowhere to

I am trying to replace my OEM "generic" Product Key with the "individual" Product Key listed on the "Microsoft-Genuine" tag on the rear of my case.
I am prepping this machine for use by my mother -- a computer neophyte -- living too far away for me to provide hands-on support. In the event of mus-hap, I I I would like the Product Key installed to match the product key listed on the "Microsoft Genuine"
tag attached to the case.
System is an already activated Windows XP Media Center with SP3 installed -- with an OEM (?) installed product key :
Windows Product Key: *****-*****-GDTF9-B9QW7-BBVH6
QUESTION: Since I don't know if the present license is a "Volume License" or an "OEM License" it's no

We have a number of PCs on which lives Publisher 2000 SP3, for which I am trying to find the Product Activation Key / Licence number(s).
Neither Belarc Advisor nor NirSoft's ProduKey will extract it.
Does anyone know if it is possible?
Thanks
