Windows 7 cannot open .zip files
location:
7forums.com - date:

I've been running into this problem for a few months now (I've had Windows 7 longer than that) and recently Windows 7 will not open .zip files if I was to download them from BaseCamp.
I used to be able to, but not in a few months.
I've already take the steps of downloading WinZip and 7-Zip and have the same problem. It won't open the files claiming that "Access to the Compresed (zipped) Folder 'C:\blah blah\.zip' is denied." Which is a bunch of manure because the files are not encrypted and they're not set to 'Read-Only', etc.
So if I request the files to be Skyped to me, Skype refuses to download them. So when I make another attempt to download the files from Skype, I have to change the name of the file, then it will downl

I can no longer open Zip files from IE on my Windows 7
location:
7forums.com - date:

I'm curious why can't I open Zip files from IE anymore? I haven't installed anything (except automatic updates), but what started to happen recently when, say, I need to download a Zip file (like this one) if I then click "Open" I get a window like this (see attached.)
This happens only when I do this from IE 10 which was working OK about a week or so ago.
Why am I getting this message?

Windows 7 extract command for zip files
location:
microsoft.com - date:

The extract option is not there for a zip file I just downloaded and tried to open. Also, when I tried to open the zip file, the default program to open a zip file is now Windows Photo. How can I reset the default for zip files to open using Windows Explorer,
and how do I recover the extract function? Is the proposed fix on the forum for Vista users having this problem applicable to WIndows 7? thanks!

All of a sudden, I can no longer open zip files with Windows Explorer on my Win 7 64 bit computer. When I download a zip file to my desktop and then double click on the file to open it, I get a message that access is denied. This problem just started
happening this week and I've had the computer since July of 2010. Is there a fix for this?

Hi,
I've just bought a new laptop and installed Office and anti-virus software. Everything works fine, but I can't seem to open any zip files, especially if they're downloaded as an attachment from an email. I can open them on any other laptop though.
Thanks!

opening zip files in Windows Mail (Vista)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

Windows mail has started going bonkers when I try to open a zip file. It used to work fine. When I click on the paperclip in the upper right corner I get the "what do you want to do with this file" dialog box, & when I click on the "open" button it flips out & starts rapidly flashing a new window - it flashes so fast I cant read what it says at the top. I cant do anything else while this is going on except log off & log back on. If I let it go it stops after about 5 minutes & I get an error notice saying "the filename or extension is too long". Any suggestions how to straighten this out?

Windows 7 Backup & Restore Creates Corrupt Zip Files
location:
7forums.com - date:
October 26, 2011
I have used the Windows 7 Backup utility on two different PC's with 2 different OS (x32, x64) onto a USB drive. Both the PC drives and the USB drive have been through chkdsk without errors. Usually, after 1-3 subsequent backups, the system creates a corrupt backup. i.e., I test by trying to restore a random file from backup, and the system returns "corrupt zip file." Zip utilities confirm this.
Does anyone know what could cause this? Wouldn't the tool verify the zip after creating it?

One of my PC's SSD's failed recently, and I've resorted to restoring from the windows 7 Backups created automatically on a networked shared drive.
When I restore (from same/different PC), I've:

Windows 7 Downloading .zip Files - SAVE AS option will not work.
location:
microsoft.com - date:
July 8, 2011
When downloading zip files from a web based application I try to choose the
SAVE AS option. I browse to the folder where I want to save the file however, Windows 7 will not allow me to save the file in the folder I have chosen. My only option is to let Windows 7 save the file to the Download Folder. I then have to move
the file to the location where I want to save it. This creates alot of extra work. Any suggestions about how to work around this feature?
Additionally, is there a way to stop Windows 7 from creating a new folder when I extract documents from the .zip file? This too creates extra steps for me. After the files are extracted I have to cut/paste them from th
