windows didnt shutdown properly

Trying to mount the Windows partition from Ubuntu, getting an error saying "Windows was not shut down properly" or "it was hibernated".

Original title: Is windows not shutting down properly? I use Windows 8 with Ubuntu 12.04 (dual boot).  I first installed Ubuntu 12.04 alongside Windows 7, which I later upgraded to Windows 8.  They are on the same physical drive.  After a while, I started to have problems trying to mount the Windows partition from Ubuntu, getting an error similar to: "Windows was not shut down properly" or "it was hibernated", etc. I have to delete the "hibernation file" to mount it every single time. The thing is that I have shut it down properly.  I am guessing that this is an error caused by Windows, thus I am posting it here.  I'd appreciate if you could help. (If more information is needed, please let me know)

Windows 8 Pro Upgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. My PC will not shutdown. I have to hold the power button to switch off.

Hello,   My PC had been happily working on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, and all drivers were working fine. I ran an upgrade check and all seemed ok to run the Windows 8 Pro 64bit upgrade, keeping my settings. So I did not do a full clean install. I kept all my settings when I carried out the Windows 8 Pro 64bit upgrade.   Everything seemed to work fine, and the PC restarted without incident and also I checked for Windows 8 updates, which loaded fine. All my devices appear to be working, but when I select the power option to SHUTDOWN my PC it goes into shut down, my screen then shows no signal, but the actual PC does not turn itself off.   I have to manually hold the power button in on my PC before the power will switc

Hi! I am using windows 8 Pro 64-bit on HP dv6-7040TX. After installing windows update, when I click to shut down my system it does not shut down properly, It goes on hibernate mode. But, if I restart the system immediately after windows update installation, then it starts applying the update. after that everything works well. Kindly please provide me a solution for this problem.

New Dell XPS 8500 following installation of programs and an attempt at creating a image using the built-in imaging program now fails to restart or shutdown from the start screen. When I attempted to create an image I got a statement that "there is not enough disk space to create the volume shadow copy on the storage location". I had 1.34 TB free on an external drive for an image calculated by Windows as 135.78 GB. After the image attempt the problems started. Today's session with Dell did not solve the problem. Their tech will call to walk me through reinstalling the system to the original state. I hope this is not a common Windows 8 problem. An help would be appreciated. Bob Crutcher

Windows 7 wont turn off my laptop after shutdown

Hi. I have been searching forever on forums for an answer, and i'm sorry, I can't find a solution that works for me. I installed a legit copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and when I shut down the laptop, it goes through the normal processes, says logging off, then shutting down, then the screen goes black, but laptop remains on. My power button is lit up, my fans still run. The only way to get it to physically shut down is to hold that power button down. Same thing when I try to sleep it, or even restart. All my drivers are up to date, no conflicts in device manager. What is going on here?

Running Windows 8 Dev. Preview on a Dell Latitude D610 (1.73Ghz, 2GB). System Hibernates fine (my main mode of powering off) but will not properly shutdown or restart. Every time I hit shutdown/restart it goes to a black screen. I know that it's still running because the power light is still on and the hard drive light flashes just as if it were still in use. I've let it sit for 3 hours in this state and it still refuses to shut down. Any ideas?

Can't restart nor shutdown windows 8

Suddenly my Windows 8 Pro wont restart nor shutdown anymore. It doesn't react on a shutdown nor restart it only reacts on Sleep. The computer just keeps working (no freezes) as if nothing is happening??? I can only shut it down improperly pulling the power plug :( It did work before, it suddeenly stopped working :( What I tried till now without success: Turning of "Fast start-up" shuting down or restart via "shutdown" command (ever forced) The shutdown process starts but doesn't react at all (I see it in the task manager) If I try it via the shutdown GUI the gui does freeze (not responding) when I trigger a shutdown/restart(re)assigning a shutdown on the power button.
