Windows 8 freezes when running "Scan for hardware changes" in Device Manager, requiring forced shutdown
location:

I've just installed Windows 8 Pro on a system that ran Windows 7 w/o issue. After completing a clean Windows 8 Pro setup, I went trough installing drivers, but found that the installer package for my sound card drivers caused Windows 8 Pro to lock up and
become completely unresponsive. I had to force a shutdown by pressing the power button for 4 seconds.
In troubleshooting the issue, I found that manually installing the drivers via device manager caused no problems. Also, installing the drivers available through Windows Update also worked w/o issue. However both of these methods fail to install parts of
the driver that the drive package include. I then went to uninstall the device the driv

I had installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 in my pc. After installation a Kaspersky gadget appeared on my desktop. But when I uninstalled Kaspersky Internet Security 2012, its gadget still remained on my desktop. So I closed it down and uninstalled the gadget. But when I opened the clock, and other default gadgets, they were looking quite funny. As shown in the screenshot
I reinstalled the Windows gadget platform, tried Enable registry.reg, but nothing worked can anyone help me?

Shutdown.exe doesn't shut down (Windows Vista Ultra)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
June 18, 2008
For the last few years, I've been using the Windows supplied program Shutdown.exe from a batch file to turn off my PC each night. All was fine until about a month ago when it stopped working. It now gets as far as the "Shutting down" screen and then just sits there. I have to physically hold in the power button to turn off the PC. Can anyone suggest what settings might be preventing shutdown.exe from working?
Thanks, John Littell

My windows 8 does not shutdown.
location:
microsoft.com - date:

when i click on Shutdown with my mobile phone connected to my laptop, the display of my laptop is turned off, but the laptop is still running, i cant turn on the display, and have to hold down the power button to turn off the laptop.
I think the cause of this issue is that windows 8 tries to access or eject my mobile during the turn off progress, but somehow it cant access my mobile.
But in windows 7, i dont have this issue at all.
is there anything which can help me to avoid this issue except unplugged mobile phone before turning off my laptop.

Windows 8 hangs on boot & shutdown, and won't sleep
location:

March 17, 2013
Hello,
I upgraded from Windows 7 (64-Bit) to 8 (64-Bit).
When I had 7 it took about 10 seconds to boot, but now it can take anywhere from 2-5 mins, also it doesn't shutdown (I have to hold down the power button) and it never sleeps (the screen goes off but the laptop remains running)
Does anyone know what is happening and how this can be fixed?
Thanks a bunch -Jack

Outlook 2010 not working properly since upgrade to Windows
location:

Hi - I'm hoping someone can help. Since upgrading to Windows 8 (from 7) a week ago my Outlook 2010 email has been faulty. It keeps stopping emails coming in or out and I have to (daily) run a 'repair' to get it to work. I contacted my ISP (Virgin) and they said that Outlook doesn't work with Windows 8 and said I should use Live. However, I then added my accounts to Live but it wouldn't accept all of them, and I found the interface very hard to use. Outlook contains all my business folders and email records for my business so I need it to work. It seems to accept my IMAP email account but not the main accounts with my ISP.
My HP desktop machine is less than a year old and has plenty of memory. But also, in general the machine is sl

Issues with windows settings/certain websites won't work properly
location:

March 27, 2013
I purchased my new computer a little over a month ago and everything was working fine. Then exactly a month to the day I purchased the laptop, certain websites stopped loading completely. For example, twitter won't allow me to compose tweets as it doesn't
recognize me attempting to click on the compose tweets button. I thought it may have been a windows update that was affecting the system, so I system restored my computer and everything was fine again. However, by the next day my computer was having the same
issues. I tried system restore again and the problem went away but returned again the next day. I disabled automatic windows updates to see if that did anything, but the problem continues to return. I reinstalled java and fla
