Hi.. I had Windows 8 working great. But I decided to install OpenSuse Linux 12.3 on another partition of the same hard disk. Everythig was find, now when I turn my computer on, I see the grub asking me for the operating system I want to use. If I choose
Windows 8, the system starts as usual, but once I try to shutdown the system, it seems like the system is performing the shutdown process, becuase the screen becomes dark, but the process never finishes and once I press a key, the system displays the "start
screen", asking me for the user and password to start...
I had had the same issue before:
I used to have Windows 7 with openSuse. When I upgrade Windows 7 to 8, I installed opensuse again and the same problem oc

Ideapad Z570 does not shutdown after installing Windows 8
location:
microsoft.com - date:
March 6, 2013
Hey, I have a Lenovo Z570 laptop and recently installed Windows 8. However, even during installation and after installation the computer does not manage to shut down properly. Though the screen turns bank, the LEDs continue to illuminate and the hard disk
continues to run. I am not sure what the problem is and I have already installed Windows with a clean boot twice. Unchecking the 'Load Windows faster' option does not seem to work. I would appreciate some answers.
Details: The laptop has normal factory settings. (It has been reset and yet the problem persists)

Windows 7 Long Time to Shutdown
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
December 22, 2011
Hi All,
Just wanted to get an idea whether anyone has experienced this. Out of the blue, my laptop has decided to take ages to shutdown. Previously, shutdown would take only a few seconds, now it goes on for minutes. In fact, I get so annoyed that it takes so long that I haven't yet waited for shutdown to happen on its own.
I've searched the web and I've found references to clearing the page file at shutdown, the time it takes to kill apps still running, even a reference to Firefox causing it, etc. I don't clear the page file at shutdown and the time to kill applications is set at 2000. I always keep my system fully up to date, both Windows and applications, use Security Essentials, run Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and have never had this prob

Shutdown Windows 8 during update installation
location:
microsoft.com - date:
April 26, 2013
Hello, currently i have a laptop running windows 8. its been preforming great and i love the new OS. The other day i was getting pestered by the required updates prompt every 5 mins. I left the room to use the restroom, and when i came back it was at the
green screen installing updates. I was already rushing to copy certain files before i leave for work, so i held the power button and shut it off. From there i turned the laptop back on, bios, then the blue windows icon on the all black screen, then an all
green screen showing installing updates "16%". At this point, windows refuses to progress past 16%. Maybe because it does have all of the files for the update that it's trying to install? I let it sit this way over night and still 16%.

windows 8 will not boot following shutdown
location:
microsoft.com - date:

I installed Windows 8 yesterday (downloaded and installed 32 bit). I have a simple active partition so no dual boot etc. If I shut down Windows 8 it will not reboot but rather after initial BIOS load and asking if I want to boot from CD/DVD it just hangs....nothing
on screen and no disk activity.
I can recover by booting from the Windows 8 DVD (I burned from ISO), selecting Repair, Advanced, Automatically fix boot problems. Interesting it reports it has failed to fix!? but actually the system will then restart after a shutdown, but thereafter if
I shutdown again I revert to the same problem. Interestingly it's okay f I restart the PC as opposed to completely shutting down. (Problem is if we
