Why can't my laptop ASUS K55V with win 8.1 pro w/ media center detect my Nokia N8 running with JoikuSpot Premium as a wifi router? I have no problem before with this same laptop in win 7.

Hi,
How can I tell Microsoft that Windows 8.1 does not fix the issues many of us have with Windows 8.
1) I have noticed that many people find Windows 8 to difficult to navigate. This might surprise some of you, but many people find it difficult to bring up the Charms, just as much as they do the Full Screen Start menu. If with have a "Start tip" in place of
a "Start Menu", then we also need a "Charms Tip" as well so people can access the Charms menu. (yes, this is mainly related to non-touch screen use of Windows 8)
2) There are those of us who understand the Full Screen Start menu, but we just don't like it. Our dislike can be for a number of reasons, for example; a) takes the visibility away from the desktop, b) is too vi

Windows 8 Pro can not access XP

Hi,
I have Windows 8 Pro and XP connected to the same router via Ethernet cable, XP can access files on Windows 8 Pro and place files in folders from Windows 8 and the files will appear in the folder in Windows 8, Windows 8 can see the XP computer but when I try to access it I get an error message saying "Windows can not access \\James ", the name of my XP computer. There can't be much wrong, but I am stuck, I just can't find the answer. Can anyone please help?

Bug: after installing any antivirus in windows 8, vpn can not connect anymore!

this is a big bug that too many people have in windows 8 and i dont know why no body try to fix it in microsoft!!!!
simple: vpn could connect easily on a clear windows 8 but when you install any antivirus(Avast,kaspersky,nod32,...) that has a firewall it cant connect anymore!!!
i used almost any protocol(PPTP,LTP,SSTP) to connect but the result is one of these :
1 error 619
2 error 809
3 error 720
4 it connect but no internet access!
please just search and see how many people reported the same problem on the forums!
and please fix it...

In Windows 8 64, Can not remove read only attribute from folder inside of a programData folder

Hello!
The Problem:
I am trying to remove the read only attribute of a folder living inside of the ProgramData folder. I ran into this problem once before with windows 7 defender years ago. So I know this problem can not be resolved by my suto windows 8 administrative privileges.
I have already done the security tab
with the add full admin control and become the owner of the file with the Auditing and the jello pudding pops but no dice so I know that this can only be resolved by a series of commands in the cmd that I don't know.
Platform:
Windows 8 64bit
Error message:
You will need to provide administrator permission to change these attributes
The path in question:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\fol

WIndows 8; can not connect to certain websites and internet-based games

So here's the deal, I have windows 8 and use IE10. I play an online game called World of Tanks, and up until yesterday there was no problem playing this game. Now for some reason I can not connect the game to the server, furthermore the World of Tanks website
is un-connectable for me too.
Basic trouble shooting I have done so far;
I have downloaded Google Chrome and tried the website via this browser, no fix.
I ran the diagnostic programs on windows, they consistently report that the website is online, but I cannot connect.
I can easily access both game and website via my sister's computer, so this is not the game/websites fault.
I have used a removal tool to rid my computer of McAfee, this did nothing.

I assumed that you were running the console app from VS. Is that correct?
When running a standalone console app, always right click and run as Admin. Big brother is always protecting you if you have UAC enabled. BTW, I have completely disable UAC because I do not use ANY metro stuff (metro won't run with UAC disabled) on my development
laptops. I am too busy doing real work to mess with metro... :-)

Windows 8.1, can't open "This PC"

Every time i try to open "This PC", explorer restarts itself and "This PC" window doesn't even open. In safe mode it works and after reinstall aswell, but a few minutes after a fresh installation it stops working again. Anyone recognizes this?
Edit: Clean installation doesn't fix it for me. Have yet not tried installing Windows 8 and do a upgrade. Also entering libraries works just fine, i can access everything that has anything to do with explorer.exe except for "This PC".
Edit #2: Upgrading from Windows 8 didn't fix it either.

Windows 8.1 Preview Not Working on All Computers

Microsoft yesterday released the new Windows 8.1 Preview and even if the update is available as a free download for all Windows 8 users, not everybody can install it.
For some reason, a number of Windows 8 consumers cannot deploy Windows 8.1 Preview, even though the update shows up in the Store after deploying the original patch.
We’ve contacted Microsoft for more information on this and it appears that it’s all because of different language packs, so the company recommends users to wait until an official fix is released and only then deploy Windows 8.1 Preview.
