How to fix hal_initialization_failed error windows 8 virtual pc
location:
microsoft.com - date:
January 3, 2012
I am trying to install Windows 8 Preview onto a Virtual PC.
Using Virtual PC (Ver 6.1.7601.17514) on Windows 7 64 bit.
Get blue screen with sad face with the following error:
"hal_initialization_failed"
Message advised to look this up on the internet.
I have found a couple of posts suggesting MS Virtual PC is not compatible with Windows 8.
Thought I would check here but could not find any posts.
Could anyone please confirm if this should work with Virtual PC?

I installed Windows 8 over XP. Install OK, when tried to run, I get the Windows Logo, then error messages. PC is now not responding to anything, nothing.

I cleared everything I could, checked for compatibility etc. So I proceeded, install seemed OK, no problems. Trying to run 8 was a disaster, as mentioned above. I got the error message:-
Your PC needs to restart. (Already powered on)
Please hold down the power button.
Error Code: 0x0000005D
Parameters:
0x030F0204
0x756E6547
0x49656E69
0x6C65746E
Powering down, then on, gets the blue Windows 8 logo, then above message. I have tried hitting F12 on power up, going through choosing CD-ROM to install XP, and 8 (again) nothing seems to work, I get back to the 8 logo.
What can I do?
Many Thanks in advance, Nigel. ( *** Email address is removed for privacy ***, or *** Email address is removed f

Upgrade to Windows 8 Pro from Windows 8 OEM PC (Clean Install)
location:
microsoft.com - date:
December 27, 2012
I recently purchased a new PC (Sony Vaio SVL241290X, Dec 2012) with Windows 8 installed. I then purchased a Windows 8 Pro Upgrade license. I wish to install Windows 8 Pro as a clean install in order to reformat my hard drive and to also remove pre-installed
software (my PC came with 2 recovery partitions and a lot of VAIO software...). Upgrading to Win 8 Pro from within Windows 8 is possible, but doesn't allow me to do what I wish as stated in the previous sentence.

Cannot install Windows XP mode in Windows 7 Pro 64-bit because it says "Older version of Virtual PC install. Please uninstall Virtual PC".

I have a Win 7 Pro 64-bit running on an HP computer. When I try to install the Win XP mode utility freshly downloaded from Microsoft, it refuses to install because it says "Older version of Virtual PC install. Please uninstall Virtual PC". I cannot find
the Virtual PC in the Control Panel uninstall utility. I did uninstall Win XP Mode, I tried downloading the newest version of Virtual PC from Microsoft, but it refuses, saying "Incompatible with your operating system"!!! I have a MS validated installation
of Win 7 Pro 64-bit. WTF! So now I can't update the Virtual PC nor install the Win XP mode! The only Virtual PC ever installed on this machine is the one I downloaded from MS--about two days ago!

Windows 8 (New PC)
location:
8forums.com - date:

Hello All,
I am slowly getting acclimated to Windows 8. I have one problem that I can find no way around, and I am hoping someone out there can provide some resolution to the problem. When I initially turn the PC on, it takes me to a screen that, in order to proceed, I am forced to enter my password. I do not need this function since I am the only person that will ever use this computer.
Can someone advise me of how I can cancel the need for signing in with a password please? Thanks in advance for any help and/or advice you can provide. I look forward to hearing from you.
