Windows 8 Pro - Microsoft sold me a faulty product key
location:

Hello.
So, a few months ago I purchased a Windows 8 Pro upgrade from Microsoft's webiste, when they had it on sale for $40. I downloaded the Upgrade Assistant and purchased Windows 8 Pro from within the program. I got a receipt and everything from Microsoft sent via
email. However, then I began having problems. I entered the product key into the program when it asked me to, but I got an error. The error read, "We Can't Connect Right Now." I kept getting that error every time I tried to download Windows 8.
The error seems to be a problem with my internet connection, right? Wrong. I connected to multiple different networks to try and upgrade, but I got the same error each time. Then I thought maybe my laptop wasn't up to date. Sinc

After I added my spouse as a standard user to Windows 8 Pro, my account doesn't show at boot. Why?
location:

Yesterday, I added my spouse to Windows 8 Pro as a standard user (local account), now when I boot into the OS, it goes directly into her account. The only way that I can get into mine (a Microsoft account), is to switch users, then mine & her accounts
both shows.
Shouldn't it be this way from the beginning? I've used Windows 8 since 02/26/2012 (day 1 of consumer preview), & except for a wireless issue that really isn't one for me, I've had a excellent Windows 8 experience & have recommended it to others.
If it matters, the reason that I added her on is because the computer dual boots with 7 Ultimate, & that OS is hanging at either the Welcome or Start up screen from time to time. She's not as patient as I, & I

Windows 8 - What Microsoft should have done..
location:

Windows 8 through my experiences even as a veterned IT person has made too many changes. For the common household user this new OS will bring nothing but frustration which is the exact opposite of what they were striving for. As a IT Director there is NO possible way I would recommend or implement Windows 8 into a corporate environment. It would take weeks of retraining and possibly more before users can be productive.
Pinning, mouse scrolls, windows key combinations to do what they already did in Windows 7 / XP? Really? Is this suppose to make a more 'fluid' experience for the user? No close button? Seriously this has to be a joke. When a new user turns on their computer their first impression will be... What? What is th

Windows 8: Give Microsoft credit for betting the farm
By Larry Dignan

Summary: Microsoft is trying to make its customers think different with its Metro UI on Windows 8. Even if customers don’t come along, Microsoft has shown a willingness to bet its cash cow.
Microsoft’s Windows 8 and its Metro UI has sparked extreme reactions and there appears to be little middle ground. Windows 8 will either be a hit or the next Vista. But let’s give Microsoft credit for making one gutsy bet.
In short, Microsoft is looking to unify its phone, desktop and tablet interfaces. That move alone is pretty ballsy. E

Looking forward to Windows 8, what Microsoft misse
location:

Part 1
Already talk about Windows 7 has moved forward to Windows 8, as Microsoft last month began hiring for posts within that division. With this in mind I thought that, from a usability standpoint, Iâ??d take a good in-depth look at Windows 7 and see what changes could have been implemented already and what we can perhaps look forward to in the future.
I want to start with Windows Explorer because this is essentially the same beast that we saw in Windows 98. Okay, so Microsoft overhauled the main interface with Vista by introducing the breadcrumb bar, but if you open an explorer window today in a basic installation of Windows 7, youâ??ll be very used to what youâ??ve seen for over ten years.
Why is this a bad thing?

Windows 8 store, change account picture, pc settings, refresh your PC and more are all broken
location:

Hi all,
I am dumbfounded by Windows 8. Maybe it's just me but nothing seems to work at all right out of the bat after having installed Windows 8 Professional (x86) version. It all began by noticing the presumed Windows 8 store tile was actually missing from the
very beginning.
Digging through dozens of forum posts and having tried all possible suggestions including "sfc /scannow" and other weird workarounds it still doesn't show up in any menu. Not in metro UI, desktop, charms, all apps, etc.
Then I started noticing many more things were actually broken. PC settings button does nothing when I click it, change account picture does nothing when I click it, refresh your PC does nothing when I click it... In fa

why did windows 8 remove the shutdown button especially when it wastes energy to sleep in an age of saving energy
location:

I know many people have complained but as an IT engineer I have spent may hours telling people how to shut their computer off. Imagine that! in 20 years of doing this I have never been asked that question before! Unbelievable that this situation passed quality
or focus groups. It is total madess!
I am so annoyed I had to post this just to relive the tension of explaining to yet another client how to switch off his laptop.
The logic that you should not switch is off is APPALING!! have they not heard of climate change energy saving.
TRULY ABYSMAL
FIX THIS ASAP I am tired of telling people how to turn off a dam laptop
