Windows 8 Metro Screen Unresponsive
location:

Hi, I've had Windows 8 Pro since launch day and I've run it for almost two months with no issues whatsoever. I love my Windows 8 machine. I have kept It up to date with all of the latest Windows Updates. However, about two days ago there was another wave
of updates from Microsoft and I was prompted to install them, and so I did, and the first boot after the update was successful and everything ran fine. However the next boot afterwards wasn't as successful. I booted to what looked like a saved image of my
metro screen when I shut it down previously. Some data is showing one tiles but they're all frozen. Unresponsive. I can move the mouse around freely and repeatedly hit the start key on my keyboard only to get a flash of the desktop and

Windows 8 Metro Screen Freeze
location:
8forums.com - date:
January 4, 2013
I am having a problem where the Windows 8 Metro screen freezes and the tiles do not update or can not activate them with the mouse. Using the shift key and restart I am able to set the computer to safe mode which will then boot and get to the Metro screen. I then go and uninstall the latest program or app that was installed and it will work fine after rebooting in normal mode. The it will happen again a day or so later. This is getting fustrating.
Any ideas?
Steve

First of all, I believe it ain't a hardware issue. Said that, let's proceed.
Hi!
I've been overclocking my GTX550 Ti for a while, and it never went like this. I always clocked my card to 1GHz proc and 2GHz memories (exactly 1000MHz and 2000MHz), but today I decided to go further and clock the memory to, precisely, 2174MHz. Fired up Driver: San Francisco and didn't notice any improvement to the previous 2000MHz, but I wanted to know how long it could run like this.
After what.. 10, 15 minutes, the ":(" face went right up. Reported WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR. Experience says it's a uncorrectable hardware issue -- Overclock failed, boo hoo. Nothing new, happened before but....
Metro never been like this:

Need help with locking down Windows 8 Metro UI
location:
8forums.com - date:
October 29, 2012
Hi guys,
I have got a pc that my whole family use and I've just completed
a fresh Windows 8 Pro installation.
I have created 2
accounts:- Admin Kids
I know that Metro UI cannot
be disabled and I don't mind keeping it, but surely if I want to be able to lock
the kids account, so that they don't accidently mess up, I should be able to at
least stop them from modifying app shortcuts and lockdown the Metro Start
menu?
I currently have loads of apps, such as Admin tools, WinRAR etc.
If I setup the Metro UI to the apps I want, how do I stop them from
removing/adding apps or modifying the menu?
Thanks

I upgraded to windows 8 about 3 months ago and the computer was working fine. 2 weeks ago I opened windows store to check for any updates on m apps. It did not take me to the categories page but it displayed a message saying "Your computer is not connected
to the internet. To use the store connect to the internet and try again"
, but my computer was connected to the internet (?!). Then I realized that weather app is not working too. The mail app was not connected and could not sent mails or update the inbox. The metro internet explorer, and other metro browsers,
could not show any page. However, desktop applications had perfect internet connection and I could browse to any page. Now my metro apps are offline and I cannot

I have exact same issue when updating to 8.1. Tried uninstalling and re-installing app but that did not work. I can watch it from a browser but not from app. No solution found as yet, but looks like it's a Microsoft issue. If anyone finds a fix, please let us know.
