I am desparate for help, My Lenovo Z580 Ideapad pre installed with windows 8 was working fine, I updated to windows 8.1 a few days ago and tonight my laptop shut down. Windows 8 Error Code: 0xc0000185.

When I startup my Windows 8 Asus laptop it shows the Asus logo but underneath the logo it says "Preparing automatic repair" Then it goes to a blue screen that says "Your PC needs to be repaired A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed . Error code: 0xc0000185 you'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media" ect. also when I Press F8 for startup  settings it brings me something like this "File: \Windows\system32\winload.efi" Error Code: 0xc000000f" ... Windows 8 error code 80073683

My Asus tablet is running Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. I have been trying to get Windows Update to work with so far 92 important updates queued but all have failed multiple times.  Even trying to update 1 at a time produces a fail with error code 80073683. I have tried a clean boot as suggested elsewhere but that has not worked. I have also run the System File Checker, as suggested elsewhere, and that found and fixed some errors but could not fix others and produced a log file of immense size with incomprehensible data (to someone without a Doctorate in Computer Science). My objective is to upgrade to Windows 8.1 but apparently to do that I need to get the outstanding updates to install first. Without
