Original title: I had windows vista and I downloaded windows 8 pro. now my computer will not play my instructional dvds or my dvd movies. what do I need to do? I'm not very good with computers.
My instructional dvd for my motorcycle has has 5 sections , when I put it in a small window comes up asking me how I want to open it. when I click on it. it comes up but when I click on one of the titles it will not open. when I put in a dvd movie it will
not come up. It all worked when I had windows vista. What happened?

Windows 8 Pro Won't install Stand-Alone Updates.

Hi,
I'm using Windows 8 Pro. 64-bit.
Windows update works fine, no problem there...BUT... When I download a stand-alone update (from the Windows download center), it will NOT run/open/install the downloaded stand-alone updates (*.MSU files).
I've also looked under the " Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs " and the associated file type/protocol has changed to UniversalExtractor.
I've uninstalled it - it didn't help.
Even tried to associate it to the Update Installer (wusa.exe), which of course got a popup saying " it cannot be associated with this program ".
same goes by trying to associate with pkgmgr.exe and/or msiexec.exe association (by trail & error) didn't work either.

Windows 8 PRO - How long before activation required

Hi there
I want to try out one or two options on a Virtual machine with Windows 8 Pro. There's no problem entering a product key at install time but is there anyway to stop it automatically trying to activate as soon as you have an Internet connection - and how long does it give you before requiring activation.
W7 gave you 30 days (usually) or in rare cases 3 days.
3 Days is fine for what I want to test -- I usually use Windows 8 enterprise which has multiple activations / VL so it's not an issue for that product.
Any Windows 8 PRO users here who can give answers on this one.
This seems a bit of a bo bo by Ms -- surely Ms knows people want to test stuff with a VM -- so why did they 1) enforce a product key at install time

My Dell Latitude 10 Tablet is giving me a message that states: we were unable to connect to the store. This might have happened due to a server problem or a network connection that has times out. Please wait a few minutes and try again.
There is nothing wrong with my network connection. My iPad and Android Tablets are working well on my network. Very disappointing!
