Windows 8 runs off VMWare but can't physically boot it
location:
8forums.com - date:

Hi guy
I'm very confused I basically can't get windows 8 to boot past the blue window logo whether I boot straight off DVD or upgrade and reboot to complete installation. However I run and install and use it perfectly off VMWare allocating only 512mb ram from my total 1gb. Surely if it runs on virtual that means my hardware does support it so it's not a hardware problem that I can boot win 8??
What do you guys think

LANGALIST PLUS
With Windows 8, "off" isn't really off
By Fred Langa
Win8's default shutoff and startup processes are unlike those of any previous Windows version. Completely shutting Win8 down—or doing a truly cold boot—requires a few extra steps!

Windows 8 log on problem
location:
microsoft.com - date:
March 20, 2013
Hi,
My Windows 8 machine will not let me log on. It goes to the screen saying it is checking the disk and hangs.
I have not made a recovery disk and did not buy the Windows 8 DVD. What options do I have for recovery, preferably without losing my data?
Thanks,
Peter

Windows 8 Start Menu Desktop Shortcut gone Black?
location:

Hey!
My start menu looks like this:
It happened after my computer froze and I had to press the restart button manually. To be honest my desktop is loading up slower too. My desktop doesn't have a black wallpaper, it's original and blue hence why I am confused. Hopefully it'll be solved. Cheers.

Windows 8 - no more keyboard & mouse
location:
microsoft.com - date:

hello,
I've bought a PC with Windows 8 installed, but after weeks, the motherboard died.
I bought the same motherboard (long history...) and installed it, and I kept of course the hard drive. (I will probably have to activate it again, it says it remains 2 days....but I need a keyboard !)
The PC has worked once, as expected (including mouse/keyboard).
After the second boot, I got no leyboard/mouse, USB or PS2.
I've tried a Linux Live CD, and everything is working well, so it's not an hardware issue.
How to access to windows ? or access to advanced mode (without keyboard...)?
I got, if needed, an emergency USB key (generated by Windows 8) and a backup, but if possible I would like to fix it without restoring.
I've tried t

location:

Hi. How do I remove the LogOff button in the Start Menu of Windows 7 Professional? I already disabled Shutdown, Lock, and SwitchUser but for some reason I can't remove the LogOff button.
I already tried using regedit and gpedit but somehow it is still there and I can still click it.
Any other way I haven't tried yet?

Running Windows 8 pro off external hard drive
location:
8forums.com - date:
April 12, 2013
Hi
I successfully managed to create a virtual hard drive on my external drive to try boot windows 8 off it. I managed to boot it up and the login screen also appears as normal. I have a successful login, But on the second time login I am faced with black screen and the cursor. I'm aware that Microsoft has released a fix for this. I have attached the executable in the zip. I tried running this fix but it didn't help . After the black screen appears, even in safe mode I cannot run explorer.exe or open any folder to try running any executable files to fix this problem. Hopefully somebody can direct me where to solve this issue. Thank you

Is there a native Windows 8 Start page taskbar shortcut
location:
microsoft.com - date:
March 15, 2013
I would like a shortcut pinned to the taskbar to open the Start page. I don't want to use 3rd party products.
For example; A shortcut with a location of: explorer.exe shell:::{2559a1f8-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0} will open the Start\Apps window. I want a shortcut to the root start page.
thanks
