Windows 8 - How to open PDF docs and Start Menu application choices in the current working desktop?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
November 18, 2012
I recently upgraded to Windows 8 Professional.
One issue that I'm having, is that whenever I try to open a PDF document, it always opens in a new, dedicated window, with a totally black background.
Is there a way to open PDF documents on the desktop, so that I can see the PDF content, on the same page as all of my other open applications?
Under older versions of Windows, I can go to the start menu, then select all applications, and they're listed in the same desktop screen as all of my other already opened applications.
In Windows 8 Professional, I haven't found a way to duplicate that behavior yet!
It keeps taking me to a completely different screen. One that looks like it might have been

Windows 7 wont turn off my laptop after shutdown
location:
7forums.com - date:
June 14, 2011
Hi. I have been searching forever on forums for an answer, and i'm sorry, I can't find a solution that works for me.
I installed a legit copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and when I shut down the laptop, it goes through the normal processes, says logging off, then shutting down, then the screen goes black, but laptop remains on. My power button is lit up, my fans still run. The only way to get it to physically shut down is to hold that power button down. Same thing when I try to sleep it, or even restart. All my drivers are up to date, no conflicts in device manager. What is going on here?

Windows 8 upgrade removed my Bluetooth capability

I have been looking for the answer to my specific question for a day or two now via previous posts, and although I have found some"indicators", I have found nothing that has specifcally worked for me - so I thought it best to ask the question "anew"!
I had previously and successfully run Windows 7 on a relatively (Oct '12?) new Asus Zenbook Prime Ultrabook, and had used a Logitech Bluetooth speaker adapter to connect my iTunes etc. from the laptop to a stereo system. However, on installing Windows 8,
I now cannot connect and play music, send sounds / files etc. at all. The issue seems to be wider than simply connecting to the specific device, as:
While the device appears on the list of devises which I can "see

I want to add new names to my contact list, but I can't find a way.
Glance down all the things listed and no contacts.
Click the plus sign and it takes you to a list.
All the existing names you can use.
How do you add more......hotmail, yahoo and gmail.
Hate to day it, but it is mind boggling.

windows 8 rtm wifi off
location:
microsoft.com - date:
August 17, 2012
I've downloaded Windows 8 Enterprise RTM from MSDN and installed it on my laptop.
I have network and internet connectivity with the Ethernet adapter, but the WiFi adapter does not appear to be working.
When I go to settings (mousing to the screen corner) and click on Network, it shows me connected to a network, but the lower section shows "WiFi (Off)", and does not show my WiFi network in the list.
My laptop is an HP "Dragon" HDX9300. HP only has drivers for Windows Vista. I was running Windows 7 Ultimate using the drivers that came with it, and the wifi adapter worked. I did a clean install of Windows 7 and was using the drivers that Microsoft provided,
and I did a clean install of Windows 8 as well.
