Windows 8 "all apps" screen is completely blank
location:
microsoft.com - date:
October 29, 2012
I turned on the computer and now the "all apps" screen is completely blank. I have done no software installs or system updates . It was working fine this morning. I went to "file explorer" and checked the folders where all the apps are located and they're
all still there. I did a system restore to the only restore point available which was yesterday and that did not repair the problem.
HELP!
Edit: It should be noted that I am able to bring up the apps listings by simply typing any single letter on the metro UI, and that brings a page of apps with a heading "Results for (x)". But the "all apps" screen is still completely empty. Is there a way
to reconstruct the main "all apps" page?

Windows 8 "all apps" screen is completely blank

SCRATCH THAT!! I found it (it was hidden), and I uninstalled that update (that took place on 10/27), AND IT WORKED! My "all apps" screen is back the way it's supposed to be. I've also changed how my windows updates come through. Instead of automatic
updates I now have it set to notify me before it downloads anything, and I've hidden that update so it won't download again.
Thanks a million for that info!

Windows 8 Modern UI apps will not start up, incorrectly claiming that my resolution is too low.
location:
microsoft.com - date:

For some unknown reason, in the last two weeks or so, many of the built-in Windows 8 Modern UI apps (Weather, Finance, Travel, Sports) and some downloaded from the store (NBCNews and Google Search) simply do not work although some, like the Kindle app
and the Skydrive app, still work. By "not work," I mean that I will turn on the app and less than 1 second after attempting to load, the app just auto-closes.

Windows 8 - How to open PDF docs and Start Menu application choices in the current working desktop?
location:

I recently upgraded to Windows 8 Professional.
One issue that I'm having, is that whenever I try to open a PDF document, it always opens in a new, dedicated window, with a totally black background.
Is there a way to open PDF documents on the desktop, so that I can see the PDF content, on the same page as all of my other open applications?
Under older versions of Windows, I can go to the start menu, then select all applications, and they're listed in the same desktop screen as all of my other already opened applications.
In Windows 8 Professional, I haven't found a way to duplicate that behavior yet!
It keeps taking me to a completely different screen. One that looks like it might have been

I want to add new names to my contact list, but I can't find a way.
Glance down all the things listed and no contacts.
Click the plus sign and it takes you to a list.
All the existing names you can use.
How do you add more......hotmail, yahoo and gmail.
Hate to day it, but it is mind boggling.

How come I can’t make Windows 8 display 2 apps at the same time?
location:
8forums.com - date:

I have 2 large computer screens and they are extended.
With Windows 7 I could watch the news in one window, be chatting on Skype in another window, be viewing pictures in another window, be shopping for products in another window, be reading reviews in another window, be sending emails in another window and be writing a letter in word and have my calculator running all at the same time.
I could cut and paste and drag and drop stuff all over the place.
Every time I fire up an app in windows 8 it takes up one full screen and I can’t see the other things I am doing.
Has Windows 8 lost the windows?
