windows 8 sleep problem, will not hibernate or go to sleep, black screen but fan and CPU still working, no waking up
location:

Hello,
I installed Windows 8 on my MSI GE620DX recently with no problems except for the fact that my computer will not go to sleep. It only makes the screen black but the CPU and fan continue to work for ever. If I try moving the mouse, touching the keyboard or pressing
rapidly the power button nothing happens, so I am forced to press the power button for a few seconds to turn the computer off and reboot every time. My computer also takes a few minutes to shut down.
I have looked on a LOT of forums, changed the "allow the computer to turn of the device to save power" to ok, and the "wake up the computer with this" to off with no effect. My BIOS is up to date.
I have done the powercfg.exe -energy to get a report (13 errors and 8 w

Windows 8 Sound problem
location:

I have a brand new ASUS desktop with Windows 8. I have sound when using Skype but not when using Internet Explorer. Any ideas? Probably a setting but I've checked all the ones I can find.
Is there a logical order to all the checks that might help me identify a solution?
Many thanks.

Windows 8 shutdown problem
location:

Hi to all,
My Dell X8500 Windows 8 Pro 64bit computer will not shut down or Restart without a forced shutdown. I just get a Restarting blue screen and the circle of dots indicating it is trying to shut down, but nothing happens. I have left it for a half hour or more but still it will not shut down.
I went out on the internet and posters have suggested everything from turning off “Turn on fast startup (recommended)” to running “bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes” at the command prompt. Nothing has worked.
It was also suggested to run “PowerCFG.exe /energy” and It notified me of – 21 Errors, 3 Warnings & 23 Informational problems and told me to see C:\windows\system32\energy-report.html for more details but I can’t f

Windows 8 update problem
location:

Please disregard this post. I did further checking at Microsoft and it appears that they don't know what to do about this problem other than to hide the update. This is what I did. Hopefully I won't see this update again. One of the Microsoft support suggestions was to do a complete reinstall of Windows. This seems like drastic overkill to solve a relatively simple problem. Sorry I took up your time, but perhaps the information I received may help someone else who has/had the problem.
Hi: I have my computer set to automatic updates--they are downloaded and installed automatically. I had reason to look at my updates and noticed that I received the same update three times in one day. Upon further investigation I noticed that this update ha

My laptop (which is still running windows 7) connects just as before. it's as if windows 8 on my desktop just can't find my router. I've trying running the troubleshooter but there's no solution. The messages I get also indicate that it just can't find the router. Any advice?

Windows 8 upgrade problem (Display adapter error)
location:

Hi guys,
I am trying to install windows 8 on my computer.
First I wanted to do a clean install by booting directly from DVD, which resulted in 0x00000005D error. I tried several times and I got this error consistently.
Later I tried Windows 8 upgrade assistant which showed that my graphics card (ATI RADEON 9600 series secondary (Microsoft Corporation – WDDM) is incompatible. The thing is I have only one graphic card. In the compatible devices list I can see ATI RADEON 9600 series (Microsoft Corporation – WDDM).
Nevertheless I tried to upgrade from existing Windows 7 which also failed saying the display adapter (ATI RADEON 9600 series secondary) might not work properly.
I don't know what is wrong. As far as I know the

Self-inflicted Windows 8 activation problem.
location:
8forums.com - date:

I upgraded four Win 7 machines to Windows 8 Pro recently. I then installed the Media Centre Pack on them but in doing so I stupidly managed to use one of the product keys twice. Now the PC with the incorrect key is reporting that Windows can't be activated.
I tried running SLUI.EXE 3 and typing in the key but after being told that the key worked activation failed with error code 0xC004C4AA and unable to find a detailed error description.
Can anyone advise me how can I activate that machine with the correct product key please?

Windows 8 Update Problem

Hi,
I am using Windows 8 on my computer at University, where Internet works through a proxy server. I can access all websites through different browsers, but I can't update Windows. When I click on Check for updates, sometimes it hangs up for a minute or two,
and then starts checking. Anyway, every time it ends up with the Error 8024402F. Also, I am having problems with updating Windows Apps (like Mail, Weather, etc...). I can update Windows and Apps without any problem through an Internet USB stick, which works
without proxy settings.
