Windows 8 Control Panel 'View by' settings will not stick
location:

Hello,
I am running Windows 8 Pro N. When I open up the control panel its default view is 'category'. If I change that to 'Small Icons', close out of control panel, and open it again, it is back to 'category' view.
Is there some setting that needs to be set in order for that preference to stick?
Thanks,
Andy Jackson

Windows 8 control panel stops responding every time.

Hello, my fellow Windows 8 sufferers! My old laptop imploded on itself a week ago and I was forced to purchase a new one - with Windows 8. I've had a lot of trouble with how messy it is, and had a lot of problems reinstalling my programs. Now it turns
out I can't even allow an app to go through Windows Firewall because it freezes, stops working and shuts down. Every time. I tried changing a few other settings using CP and it shut down every time. Mind you, this is a brand new computer. I'm at a loss because
I haven't installed any programs that should result in this, and it's getting frustrating.
Microsoft, perhaps you could release a Windows 8-II? You know, making it more user friendly and not trying to copy the iPhone navigation me

Windows 8 Control Panel Not Opening?
location:
microsoft.com - date:

Hello, I just bought a brand new desktop computer that has Windows 8 on it. I've been trying to install my AV anti-virus but it says that it cannot install because the Norton free trial that came pre-installed to my desktop was preventing it from installing.
I have been trying to open my Control Panel to uninstall the Norton Security stuff from my desktop. The Control Panel icon pops up in the taskbar but when I click on it nothing pops up. It shows the Control Panel window preview on the taskbar when you hover
the cursor over it, but it won't open. Please help! Thanks!

I have found a bug in the Windows 8 Control Panel where the keyboard interface is not fully implemented.
location:
microsoft.com - date:

As per subject - I have found a bug in the Windows 8 Control Panel, "Performance Information and Tools", "Advanced Tools" cannot navigate with the standard keyboard interface (tab and arrow keys) to all the links. Is anyone else able to replicate this?
If so where can I log this with Microsoft?
This keyboard interface problem causes an issue for visually impaired screen reader users where the keyboard interface is relied on to access links etc.
Steps to replicate are in Windows 8 64bit (I assume it effects 32bit as well):
1. Press Windows key + X and select "Control Panel" from the menu.
2. Arrow down to "Performance Information and Tools" - if it is not visible then set the Control Panel view

windows 8 control panel and search crash explorer
location:

After recently upgrading from win 7 home to win 8 pro, Every time I search something on the windows metro interface or open control panel in desktop mode, explorer.exe resets itself without producing any error message. As a result, i cannot access control
panel or use the windows search feature. I have tried every single "solution" to this problem out there and nothing has fixed it.
Indexing was reset and is now complete, i have tried sfc /scannow and no errors were detected, all windows updates have been installed/ reinstalled, and all device drivers are up to date. When using explorer to browse files and directories in desktop mode,
it works fine. What is causing the search and control panel crashes?
