I apologize at the start for being so inept but I just don't get how computers talk to each other.
Never have and it frustrates me no end. I'm sure I'm making this infinitely more complicated than it really is.
I have two computers, one Windows 8, one Windows 7 and I want to share/move files between them.
As I understand it, that means none of the standard XP compatibility issues are involved.
I've gotten to the various homegroup folders and pages so I know where they are and what they ask.
Both computers show up with their names on each others networks on the libraries, etc., sidebar in folders.
The Windows 8 computer has a homegroup set up with its folders to share.
The Windows 7 sees that homegroup, so I'm pretty sure I'm OK wit

Windows 7 Homegroup share not accessible by Windows 8 Microsoft Account

I have a Windows 7 computer and a Windows 8 computer. They are in the same Homegroup. The Windows 7 computer has a folder shared with the Homegroup. The shared folder on the Windows 7 computer is not accessible from the Windows 8 computer when signed
in with a Microsoft Account. The folder is accessible from the Windows 8 computer when signed in with a Local Account. Password Protected Sharing is turned off on both computers. Is this behavior by design, or is it a result of a configuration problem?

I have a friend that has Windows 8, and he uses the same network. In Windows 8, you can create/join a HomeGroup. But can Windows 7 connect to a Windows 8 HomeGroup? Or does Windows 8 have to join a Windows 7 HomeGroup?

My computer keeps showing "homegroup is sharing files" but I don't have a homegroup Windows 8.

I am new to Windows 8 and skipped over Windows 7 so I am not familiar with either version. My computer constantly shows in the action center the
message "homegroup is sharing files." I have not set up a homegroup and I think this is keeping Windows 8 from updating because it shows that my
Windows 8 updates have failed. What should I do to fix this?

I have no problem accessing my win 7 pc from the win 8 pc but not the other way around.

riginal Title:Need help with Homegroup setup
Okay here are the details. I installed Windows 8 on my Desktop a month ago. Well here is the problem. I originally had a Homegroup setup from this particular desktop when it had Windows 7. The thing is I did not backup the password, or the picture I
took was deleted due to some other reason. Now that the computer is set up brand spanking new I can't create a new Homegroup with any of my computers at home. What can I do? So far I know for sure that my dad's laptop, my netbook and desktop are not connected
to the old homegroup. I have yet to check our tv room desktop and my brother's desktop but I don't think any of them are connected. &n
