Windows 8 won't share in Homegroup
location:

I have 5 PCs on a Homegroup. 1 Windows 8 and 4 Win7s. The Win7 PCs share files no problem back and forth. The Windows 8 can use files from Win7 PCs but not the other way. No Win7 PC can access Windows 8 files. The shares show up but when you click on the shares nothing happens. The share, no matter if it is Video, Music, Pictures, or Documents won't open and I get no error message.
This happens whether Windows 8 created the Homegroup or one of the Win7 PCs. And I have unjoined all PCs and recreated the Homegroups several times from Windows 8 and the Win7 PCs. All the clocks are sync'd, and I have specifically shared the shares in Windows 8. And I don't use any third party anti virus or firewall, just Microsoft's

How to remove the Homegroup icon in Windows 8?
location:

April 23, 2012
The Windows 7 method for removing the homegroup icon from the navigation pain doesn't seem to work, even though the extremely similar method for the libraries icon does. Has anyone managed to remove it? I don't feel like disabling homegroups, Microsoft made setting up a network too annoying without it (unless someone has a guide...)
Here was the old way. It seems to have no effect: Homegroup - Add or Remove from Navigation Pane - Windows 7 Forums

Can not access homegroup folders on windows 8
location:
microsoft.com - date:

My dell laptop has windows 7 home premium. Recently bought a Surface Pro, which obviously runs windows 8. I created a homegroup from the win7 laptop and made the Surface Pro join it.
I can access and copy files from Win7 laptop when operating surface.
But if I try to access folders on my surface from my win7 laptop, it doesn't respond. The folder icons does show up, but clicking it only shows the progress circle, but fails to open. I have checked the sharing options of these folder and they allow permission
to the homegroup .Any idea what is going on ?

Hi, I have a Windows 7 and Windows 8 machine that I want to put into the same Homegroup but I don't seem to be able to. They're both connected to the same wireless connection and I used to be able to see them on the Network within Explorer but that's
disappeared.

[Issue] Windows 8 "rogue" computer in Homegroup
location:
8forums.com - date:
November 19, 2012
During the Customer Preview (CP for short) I ran Windows 8 in a Virtual Machine on a Windows 7 system. When the preview was over I simply deleted the image of the Windows 8 system. Now that I have Windows 8 Pro, I've joined my Homegroup and now the CP install I had been running on the homegroup as well shows up.
It looks like this:
HomeGroup -User1 (removing user names) -User2 (removing user names) ----> Serena (computer name) ----> Infinitas (computer name) Infinitas was the name I gave the Windows 8 CP image.
How do I remove this 'rogue' computer. It doesn't show up in my Microsoft Account, I removed it as a trusted PC after deleting the image.

Windows 8, homegroup & shared printers - ARGH!!
location:

I have Win 8 pro on my laptop. It was previously Win 7 and could happily share a printer connected to the other PC in the household which is also Win 7. The sharing was/is done via the magic that is HOMEGROUP.
I upgradedified my laptop to Win 8, and after a little nonsense, all was working well, appart from the fact that I cannot for love nor money see the shared printer mentioned above any more.
I have remoed both laptop and desktop PC from the homegroup. Rebooted. Re-created a homegroup on the desktop, joined my laptop to it. I can see all the libraries and files, but there is no sign of the printer. I even took my laptop out to the room where the printer is to show it that it really did exist!
Now, I can walk out to room with
