Sharing files between Windows 7 and Windows 8 in a homegroup
location:

Hello
I'm quite frustrated after trying to share files between my Windows 8 PC and Windows 7 Laptop. Sharing files between Windows 7 PC and laptop was flawless.
I tried creating a homegroup in Windows 7, joined it from Windows 8, when I tried to open shared files, it gave permission error. I've disabled password protection on both PC. Tried adding HomeGroupUsers$ in Advanced persmissions of folder sharing, still the same.
Tried other way round too i.e created a homegroup in Windows 8 and joined it from Windows 7. Still the same issue of permission.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you

Can't see Windows 8 Computer in HomeGroup on Windows 7 Computer
location:

I recently put Window 8 Pro on one of my computers. I still have one other Windows 7 Ultimate computer (both 64-bit). When I finished installing Windows 8, I grabbed the HomeGroup password from the Windows 7 computer and joined that HomeGroup. I got
no error messages. From the Windows 8 computer, I can see the Windows 7 computer in HomeGroup just fine. But, on the Windows 7 computer, the HomeGroup is empty.
Both user accounts have Administrator privileges. Both computers have network sharing on. They both belong to the same workgroup (WORKGROUP). The Windows 8 HomeGroup settings look like:

Original title: HomeGroup Windows 8 to 7
I set up HomeGroup on my new Windows 8 computer but it won't link to our existing Windows 7 computers. I get a message on those saying 'no HomeGroup detected'. I have run the HomeGroup troubleshooter on all three computers but this has not solved the problem.
Any solution?

I can't make the two machines see each other. Is Homegroup only a Windows 7 capability? If not, how do I get them in the same Homegroup? And, can I name the Homegroup, so I know which one it is?

I am having problems setting up a Homegroup which I would like to do so that I can use one external hard drive for backing up data etc from two Windows 8 computers.
Although I am still running a third desktop with Windows Vista, I will remove that computer once all is up and running on the two Windows 8 computers as I realize Vista cannot join the Homegroup.
The following is the computer information and troubleshooting steps done so far:
Currently running three desktop computers:
Windows VISTA Home Premium SP2
Computer Name: Shark
Workgroup: Workgroup
Windows 8
Computer Name: DRB-ASUS
Workgroup: Workgroup

New Windows 8 PC cannot join my Windows 7 HomeGroup
location:

I've got an existing Homegroup that's running without trouble made up of two desktops and a laptop. I'm trying to add a new Windows 8 PC to it. I've tried everything that I could find here on the forums. Ran HG troubleshooter on the new PC and the Existing
one that formed the HG, turned off Windows Firewall, etc. The new PC sees the Win7 PC and shows "[USER] on [WIN7PC] has created a homegroup on the network do you want to join it?" but when I put in the password and click Join and enter the password it just
sits there forever and doesn't connect.

Windows 7 PC cannot join my Windows 8 HomeGroup

Hello,
After upgrading my Windows 7 Ultimate desktop machine to Windows 8 Pro, this machine has created a new HomeGroup.
I now want to connect my Windows 7 Home Premium netbook to this new HomeGroup.
On the W7HP netbook, the HomeGroup created by the W8P machine is shown as the detected HomeGroup.
When I click "Join", and enter the password for this HomeGroup, taken from the W8P machine, the W7HP machine tries to connect, then reports "Windows cannot set up a homegroup on this computer".
All the HomeGroup trouble-shooter on the W7HP machine can suggest is that all computers in the homegroup have to have synchronized time. I've done that -- each machine is synchronizing via time.microsoft.com, and I've forced
