windows 8 can't focus on task manager when a game hangs

this is a problem i have been having(win8pro, amd 4850, whql drivers)
when/if a full screen game or 3d stuff hangs up, on windows 7 you can open the task manager (by any means, ctrlshift esc, or ctrl alt sup, or alt tab and right click task bar)and end the process, but on windows 8 the games keeps some kind of lock on the desktop and i can't kill the process because i can't get focus on the task manager.
I can see the task bar, i can alt tab, and with alt tab i can see what's going on the rest of the windows, but i can't input anything on them, except on metro apps and start screen, so i can't access the task manager and kill the app.
When something like that happened on win 7, you could still open the task manager above the gam

Windows 8 Pro Upgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. My PC will not shutdown. I have to hold the power button to switch off.

Hello,
My PC had been happily working on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, and all drivers were working fine.
I ran an upgrade check and all seemed ok to run the Windows 8 Pro 64bit upgrade, keeping my settings. So I did not do a full clean install.
I kept all my settings when I carried out the Windows 8 Pro 64bit upgrade.
Everything seemed to work fine, and the PC restarted without incident and also I checked for Windows 8 updates, which loaded fine.
All my devices appear to be working, but when I select the power option to SHUTDOWN my PC it goes into shut down, my screen then shows no signal, but the actual PC does not turn itself off.
I have to manually hold the power button in on my PC before the power will switc

Windows 8 Pro Upgrade boots to Desktop

I Upgraded Windows 7 Home Premium 64 to Windows 8 Pro. Windows 8 now boots to the "Start Page" then a couple seconds later goes to the Desktop. This isn't something I configured it just does it. I do have Start8 from Stardock installed but it isn't configured to go to the desktop on boot either.
Any clue how I can stop this behavior and have Windows 8 stay at the Start Page on Boot?

Right, so I have purchased Windows 8 Pro on October 26th. Its an update from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 8. Its a download and I don't have the physical CD. Everything goes right, I go through the installing process, but then the PC restarts and
then goes to the Windows 8 logo ( the blue window) with a loading icon at the bottom. I had my PC running for 4 hours on the same screen and nothing has happened.
