Windows 8 is the new XP
location:
8forums.com - date:

This new version of Windows is a disaster. Power users can't wait to replace the UI, and businesses are avoiding it like the plague. I'm talking, of course, about Windows XP. Ah, how quickly we forget.
This new version of Windows is going to be a disaster, pundits say. It will be completely rejected by businesses, who will stick with old versions even after Microsoft drops support for
them.
And its new interface is so hideous and unusable that customers who are forced to use it will trip over themselves finding ways to restore the old Start menu.
I am, of course, talking about Windows XP, which was released 11 years ago this week. It lived down to all those insults and dire predictions for years before it finally and

Re-install windows 8 w/ new motherboard and CPU
location:
8forums.com - date:
March 8, 2013
hey guys,
done a solid few hours of my own research and havent managed to come to a solution for my particular issue.
i am buying a new motherboard (GA-Z77X-UD3H) along with an intel i5.
the current system is an older model gigabyte AMD mobo w/ a phenom X2 in it... the OS is on a SSD and i have 2 other HDD's to back stuff up on.
my aim is to be able to essentially copy my current windows 8 install and slot it back in with the new hardware, i don't like the idea of re-installing programs and changing settings etc.
the current windows 8 install is the 40$ upgrade from windows 7 that was available a while back.
so mainly, should i just try to swap in the new hardware and hope to god it will boot? / is uninstalling drive

How to easily remove Right Click > New items in Windows 8
location:
8forums.com - date:
January 23, 2013
I've used TweakUI since Windows 9x to easily remove Right Click New items, for example, all MS Office entries pictured below.
TweakUI 64-Bit does not work on Windows 8 and so-called Tweak software like Ultimate Windows Tweaker lack this feature. Programs such as ShellMenuView do not clearly display Right Click New items so you can easily disable them. They display general right click items - not Right Click > New items.
I have spent the entire morning and found only 1 (one) program that clearly displays Right Click New Items to be disabled but it is $30 (Windows 8 Manager) and I have no need for its other features, just to quickly and easily remove Right Click > New items so $30 is steep for that.
Does anyone know

How to get windows 8 onto new SSD?
location:
8forums.com - date:
March 26, 2013
Hi, I just bought an Asus UX32VD with Windows 8 (64 bit)
I bought a new SSD to install, but am having trouble figuring out how to get windows onto it. I tried creating the recovery disk on USB but that didn't work.
I've read through a bunch of these forums, lots of info out there but I'm confused what I need to do.
How can I copy windows, swap drives, then put windows on the new SSD? Can I use USB? I do not have a dvd drive.
Is there a step by step instruction somewhere?
Also note, the new SSD is smaller than the OEM supplied HDD.
Thanks in advance!
Brad

Hi
A couple of days ago my old hard drive started giving issues and eventually died. My brand new one arrived today. However, now I'm stuck with no HDD to boot my dekstop from and only a laptop to get Windows 8 onto my new HDD.
Can anyone tell me what would be the best way to go about doing this ?
Any advice is much appreciated!

Frequent BSOD on new PC upgraded to Windows 8 Pro
location:

I have a brand new PC been using for last few days; which I just upgraded to a new SSD drive and a fresh install of Windows 8 Pro; manually installed all the drivers myself, and have been getting quite frequent daily BSOD crashes.
Im really not familiar with Windows 8, so have been a struggle to even find out how to find the log files of the crashes. Some of the crashes have happened when I've been away from computer so was not able to see the 'error code' that appears on the BSOD.
But twice I have seen it were different errors; one was "KMODE_EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED", and the most recent was "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (storport.sys).
I have followed the sticky post on using the SF Diagnostic Tool to retrieve th

Pop out my hard drive with all my windows 7 stuff on it and pop in another hard drive, then install windows 8 and hope for the best.
My questions is after all is said and done, will I be able to put my old hard drive back in, and have no problems booting up windows 7 and playing my games and using my programs and what not?

location:

Yes I did it. I bought a new laptop from Best Buy and had the Windows 7 Disk and it worked. The only problem I am having is in Device Manager, "Unknown device" The USB Ports? The right USB port works well, but the 2 on the left do not work. I tried everything. Does anyone know how I can get them to work to use my flash drive Thanks.
