How do I activate Windows 8 64 bit Upgrade (clean install) using my old XP 32 bit key?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
February 9, 2013
I bought the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade when it was on sale and installed the 64 bit version (clean installation - formatted the HDD). I'm trying to activate the OS using my XP Home 32 bit key but it won't let me activate. I get the message "we couldn't verify
this key, so try a different one". Is the problem that XP is still being recognized as being used for a previous installation? What's the best way to activate Windows 8 with this key? Thank you.

Upgrade from Vista Ultimate to Windows 8 (via temporary Windows 7)
location:
microsoft.com - date:
January 20, 2013
I would like to upgrade from Vista Ultimate x64 to Windows 8 Pro. I understand that this would normally mean I would have to reinstall all of my applications. I was wondering whether there was another way.
Is it possible to first upgrade to Windows 7 (without buying a licence key at this stage), then
immediately upgrade to Windows 8 Pro and then enter the newly purchased licence key for Windows 8?
The Windows 8 upgrade offer expires at the end of Jan so really want to purchase the upgrade before then, but this depends on whether I can create a seamless upgrade from Vista. Any help much appreciated.
Thanks,

Cannot create a desktop shortcut (icon) in Windows 8 Pro after upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium using the online upgrade tool.

Cannot create a desktop shortcut (icon) in Windows 8 Pro after upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium using the online upgrade tool. Have gone back to Windows 7 and tried upgrade again with no luck. Chose to keep all files, settings and apps. First thing
I tried was to create shortcut. Wizard comes up, accepts all inputs, but will not Finish, and icon disappears when the wizard closes. Was able to create shortcut on Windows 7 just prior to upgrade. Next step will be to start again, but upgrade without files,
settings and apps. Anyone else have this problem?

$14.99 Windows 8 Pro Upgrade, will it work for Windows 8 (plain version)?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
December 27, 2012
I recently purchased a Dell 660 Inspiron deskttop PC, it comes with the plain version of Windows 8. I'd like to upgrade it to Windows 8 Pro. Two questions.
Would the $14.99 upgrade being offered at
http://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/ work to upgrade a PC such as mine? Does my PC qualify for the $14.99 offer and, if so, how do I get past the registration screen asking for the Windows 7 ID number?
Thank you in advance and my apologies for not being able to find the answer using the online search facility.

DLNA Play To / Play not working since upgrade to windows 8 (and still not in 8.1)

Hi,
I have a machine that used to run Windows 7. It was completely happy streaming music and pictures to my Sony Bravia KDL-40W5810 TV.
(it still works on windows 7 - I have machines not yet upgraded)
Searching for the device, windows 8.1 finds something, but shows it as "Other". If I try and connect to it, it asks for the WPS pin, which doesn't exist, the TV is hard wired.
This is in the Explorer Desktop view, not in the Metro View.
So I am now faced with the thought of having to return to Windows 7 on the PCs I have because they cant all work.
Suggestions?
PS> While Play to Xbox works in the Metro interface, The Device screen in PC Settings cant find the Xbox as a Play To Device, should it? (I've se
