On setup of Windows 7 Backup to network drive, how to avoid userid and password?
location:
microsoft.com - date:

I have Windows 7 x64 Pro on one PC of my 2-computer home network. I backup my files to a 1-GB network drive using obsolescent software. I would like to use Windows backup in the same way, but I get stuck at the first stage of backup: "what are my userid
and password?". I do not need to use either as both computers are single-user and log-on automatically.
How can I persuade W7 Backup to accept that they are not needed? Alternatively
how can I, having administrator status, either:
check out whether there is an existing id/password?if necessary, set up a new id/password without prejudicing my current automatic logon?

How do I get Windows 7 to index my logical drive?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
September 5, 2010
I have a logical drive ('B') (with all my 'data' files, eg., txt, doc, eml, jpg, etc). Windows 7 indexing seems to not recognize it. There are tens of thousands of files on that drive, yet Indexing only finds about 2,000 files (presumably on my system
drive in my User/ area, also indexed).
Here's some information:
* The drive's 'Properties' 'Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed...' is checked
* ControlPanel->Indexing, Modify, was used to select the logical drive. It shows up on the list of 'Index these locations' with a drive icon.
* About 2,000 files are found (probably on C drive). When I create a new file on C dirve, it is found by Search (in StartMenu). When I create a new file o

Windows 7 not seeing network PCs and USB drive on router

Hi,
I have an Asus RT-N56U router to which you can attach a USB drive for sharing documents. I have been trying to access this USB drive from my Windows 7 64 bit PC but with no luck at all. The Windows 7 PC also does not recognise any other PCs on the network
(for example a Windows XP PC), though I can access the Windows 7 PC from the XP machine.

Windows 7 Pro backup won't copy files to a USB network drive on a Windows 7 Ultimate machine. Network is set to "workgroup" on all 4 computers.

Windows backup on my Windows 7 Pro machines (3 machuines) finds my Windows 7 Ultimate machine's USB external drive, but doesn't recognize the previous backup files from the machines that were previously backed up with backup from Windows 7 Home Premium.
The Pro machine shows the backup starting and gets to the point of copying files to the network drive and fails. The same results have happeded on two of the Pro machines. I have tried a backup to the main drive on the Ultimate machine and it seems to be
working fine.
Has anyone had the same experience?

Windows 7 does not assign drive letters to external HDDs
location:

Hi
I'm having some problems with some of my external HDDs. I have a 500Gbs WD Caviar Green and a 500Gbs Seagate ST350032, both using a Cooler Master XCraft 360 enclosure. A few days ago, I decided to move 50GBs from D to C using Paragon 2010. I already did this on my laptop without any problems. When I first restarted the PC after all this, I was asked to install some Win Updates. Since then my 2 external HDD stopped being visible in Windows Explorer. At first I thought there's something wrong with my HDDs but then I noticed that there were both visible in Computer Management but had no drive letter assigned. I assigned the letters manually everything went fine till my 1st reboot. Every time I reboot my system, those 2 HDDS have no drive

Windows 7 Laptop Wireless Network keeps disconnecting.
location:

I have a windows 7 64bit HP laptop computer. All updated via windows update. I've been having this problem for awhile but it's becoming more problematic recently.
Every now and then while browsing the internet my internet will go off. I notice in the bottom right hand corner there is a yellow explanation icon on the networking icon. If I wait it will come back on itself. Sometime I have to diagnose the connection. Sometimes it will repair the problem sometimes it says there is a problem with the router. More and more it has been doing and it's starting to get really annoying. I've noticed when it goes out that it's the only computer on the network that is losing internet. I have 1 wired desktops, 1 wireless desktop, 2 wireless laptops, 1 i
