Windows 7 - Unable to change Aero theme colors
location:
microsoft.com - date:
October 18, 2011
original title: Windows 7 Window colour problem
In windows 7 Home Premium. Whenever I select an Aero theme under "personalization", and click on the "window color" to change it, it will bring up the basic theme customizer instead of the Aero theme colors and transparency. I am able to change the background
picture and sounds but not the window color. I launched the Aero troubleshooter and it said that it fixed the problem. However it still exists. I have had this computer for awhile, and it was only since my last small update that this happened. How do I fix
this?

Unable to change file association
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

I am trying to change a file association, specifically .rar. I tried using Default File Associations, but after I search for and select the program I want to open this extension(7Zip), it does not appear as a choice in the next screen for me to select it. Can I somehow just delete this file extension from memory, then try to open a .rar file and then tell Win7 to use 7Zip?

Unable to change file association for proprietary .exe program
location:
microsoft.com - date:
February 26, 2013
Just purchased new Win 7 Dell desktop running Home premium OS transferring file from an old XP computer. I am a s/w developer using a proprietary application that compiles .xpa files. Using 'Open With" when I try to associate the .xpa file with our application
it doesn't work. Instead:
1. the application doesn't show up in the list of programs to associate even though it has an .exe file extension
2. when I click on the .xpa file that I want to associate with the application it reverts back to being associated with a Windows Media file
Not sure what to do.
Thanks for any help.

Windows 7 unable to detect anti-virus.

I am using 'Kaspersky Internet Security 2012' on 'Windows 7 Ultimate x64' and there were no issues. Today when I switched on my system, the security center says that, "Windows did not find antivirus software on this computer"
I restarted my system but results were same.
What is wrong with my Windows or Kaspersky?

Windows 7 Starter Change desktop background
location:
7forums.com - date:

Hi Folks,
I picked up an Acer netbook for my sister, it's got Windows 7 Starter on it overall runs great there is just one problem that is there is no easy way to change the desktop background. I find that ridiculous to try and force people into buying Home Premium to change desktop background especially when they have no other use for HP's features.
I've read that the background file is hashed into a system file somewhere so you cannot just to a simple file replacement as a work around.
Are there any work arounds that I haven't heard of?
Thanks,
Dan

Hi all,
Just been trying out the Windows 7 RC,it appears that Microsoft have made the security system a bit too anally retentive.
I've set Win7 up with me as the Administrator,I have the only user account on the operating system,so logically I should have Administrator
Access to all files, okay,so last night I tried dragging files from one folder to another,I get a pop-up message saying that "I need Administrator Permissions to complete the task",or something like that,it asks me if I want to continue,I click on the "continue",and
then I get a message saying
"Access Denied",even though I am the Administrator,I go through the process of setting the file and folder permissions to give me access, everything looks good, then I try draggi

Windows 7 Unable to go past 1024x768 Screen Resolution
location:
7forums.com - date:
May 14, 2009
Hi, I have Windows 7 RC Build 7100 x64, and my 15 inch Compaq CRT Monitor can not go past 1024x768 in windows 7, but in windows XP and Windows Vista, im able to go all the way up to 2048x900 57 hz, ive tried upgrading drivers, using a DVI-to-VGA adapter to use the DVI port with my vga monitor, and clearing the checkbox that hides the higher resolutions, but, i still cannot go any higher than 1024x768, which is too low of a screen resolution for me, so, please help, ive also tried using vista drivers from 2008, but still a no-go, so im out of ideas, if theres a way to fix this, or this is unfixable for the time being, ill stick with XP, so please let me know, thanks

Before I start I'm sorry if this is in the wrong thread, i just joined and I don't want to waste time that could be spent trying to fix my computer.
Anyways, I've been recently trying to dual boot windows 7 and windows 8 release preview and i tried several methods from vhd to bootable usb, it was going pretty well until i decided bootable usb would be easier and got rid of the vhd that wouldve had windows 8. Now i am unable to boot my computer after a message saying bootmgr is missing. I have a system recovery disc but when i put it in it comes up with an error :status 0xc00000e9 info an unexpected I/O error has occurred. I also have the usb with the bootable windows 8 installation but that fails to start with another error; status 0xc

"Update" leaves Windows 7 unbootable, "file corruption"
location:

My son was browsing the Net on his mother's Windows 7 business laptop and encountered some type of "upgrade" message. I did not see it, but he confirmed that when he canceled it, the message reappeared (not a good sign). They had just set up a cable modem in a new apartment and plugged the
[email protected]%@$ laptop right into the modem before I had a chance to install a new router. I don't know what kind of security was active on the laptop at the time. There's a good chance there was some kind of anti-virus suite running, but in an unknown state of update. In any case, the next morning the laptop would not boot. It gets past the text-like "loading software" status bars, then automatic recovery kicks in and fails. I've attached
