Windows 7 sharing printer to XP secure?
location:
7forums.com - date:

Hello all,
Soon I will install Windows 7, I like to share my printer.
The printer should be used by a Windows XP computer.
I read some treads in this forum about how to share the printer, but I was wondering if sharing everything without a password is a good practice?
Thanks upfront for reading my question,
Kind regards,

Windows XP cannot print to Windows 7 shared printer
location:
microsoft.com - date:

I recently upgraded my Windows XP computer to Windows 7. This computer was acting as a print server for 4 other computers in the house, all of them XP sp3. However, now that I've upgraded the print server to Win7 and installed the 64-bit drivers, none
of the XP computers can print to the printer (Canon i850).
The problem seems to be that the Windows 7 machine has installed 64-bit drivers in order to print to the printer, and these are unusable by the Windows XP machines. On the Win7 computer, I attempt to also install the x86 drivers (under the Printer Properties
-> Sharing tab) so that the 32-bit Windows XP machines can print, but of course the Win7 machine won't let me because it's not a 32-bit OS.&

Cannot add network printer and driver for Brother HL-1850 on Windows 7-64 from XP Pro
location:
microsoft.com - date:
February 9, 2010
I have a small network with some XP and one win 7-64. I can see the whole network from the 7-64 but cannot add the printer to the system.
1. I search the network and find the printer.
2. 7-64 searches for a driver and cannot find one then gives the error error 0x00004005.
This is a brand new Dell system only a couple hours old.
I also have a laptop with 7-32 which connects to the network via wireless and had no problem installing this printer. Is this a 64 bit issue?
When I search the microsoft website it states this printer is compatible with 7-64.
Thanks.

location:

Hi all,
I am trying to share a HP Laserjet 4250n ( USB Dot4 ) from a windows 7 64Bit OS to users that are running Windows XP SP3 32 Bit. I have the correct 32 bit driver added on the windows 7 Box for the XP users that connect up to the printer. When i type in the IP to connect up to the printer it keeps asking me for a driver.
Even though i have the correct driver on the XP system, it still does not reconize it.
Do anyone have any thoughts on this issue, im stumped lol
Thanks

hi, i cannot seem to get my Printer sharing ( Using HP PSC 1610 ALL-IN-ONE). My printer is connected through usb on windows xp 32bit and want to share printer on windows 7 x64bit windows vista x32bit.
Ive set up the sharing part on xp and windows 7 side, but i cannot seem to connect it. The problem may be that whenever i click on x64 driver to install ( I click sharing in my printer (HP PSC 1610 ALL-IN-ONE ) and click additional Drivers and tick x64 and click next it prompts me to install the driver using a cd..ive tried windows vista 32bit windows xp 32bit windows 7 x64 bit..no luck).
So i try moving the printer on windows 7. It installs the drivers x64bit one, The version is HP PSC 1600 SERIES VERSION 6.1.7600.16385 installed on 64

Windows 7 & Printer sharing on domain
location:

I have just upgraded the 8 pcs in my office from XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro 32bit and I’ve encountered printer sharing issues. I have a local mono laser connected to my PC by USB. I’ve shared this and others have been able to add the printer and on occasion print to it, it usually works when they want to print text to A4 but when they want to do labels or envelopes they usually sit in the queue and don’t print. This is not an issue we had on XP and the document templates haven’t changed. I don’t think it is an issue with the printer (I’ve replaced it with a new one to make sure), I don’t think it is an issue with the documents. I think it is an issue with Windows 7 and was wondering if there is a known issue or fix. The computers are connected

Mac Wireles Sharing a Windows 7 Connected Printer
location:

OK,
I have been struggling with this for quite some time. I've read tons of posts and articles and have gotten nowhere.
Does anyone have any idea how to get a Mac Powerbook (10.4.11) to connected to a Printer (HP Officejet 4215) that is connected to a PC (Windows 7100) through a Linksys Router (WRT54GS)?
I've got printer sharing enabled on the PC and have tried so many things that I'd rather not post everything here.
If there is anybody that knows of a surefire way to get this working, I would appreciate it
Steve

Can't print from XP to shared Windows 7 Kyocera printer
location:
7forums.com - date:

Hi Everyone,
I have setup a Kyocera FS-2020D KX printer on a Windows 7 x64 computer. On the Windows 7 computer the printer is connected by LPT port. Within Windows 7 the printer is set to Share so that it is available over the network to other Workgroup Computers.
On an XP computer I have added the printer by using the Add Printer dialogue. During initial setup of the printer XP stated that it would "automatically get a driver from the host computer", however it failed to do this, and as a result presented me with an additional dialogue which I used to browse for an appropriate driver file.
I am unable to print a test page from the XP computer, furthermore there is some strange behaviour when right clicking on the print

Is it a bad idea to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 on an XP system?
location:
7forums.com - date:

Just as the title says. Would it be a bad idea / cause a lot of driver issues?
I'll try to find all the drivers for her computer ahead of time online and download the setup files to a USB, then install Windows 7 and install the drivers. But is there any big problems with doing this that I should be made aware of?
By the way, would the CPU and Motherboard need driver software? I've never messed around with CPU and Motherboard drivers because they seem like the kinda thing you don't wanna screw with unless you really have to. I usually just update GPU, sound card, and WiFi drivers.

Does Windows 7 Pro Support XP Drivers?
location:
7forums.com - date:

I want to connect a HP 1320 Printer to a Windows 7 Pro machine.
Only the Printer has a faulty USB port.
Hence I need to connect it with a DB-25 Parallel connector, but the Pro machine has a USB connector only.
I found an adapter which is compatible with Windows XP.
Windows 7 Pro has an XP compatibility for software.
Does it have a compatibility for XP drivers?
The Adapter is USB to DB25 Serial Port + CN36 Parallel Port Cable SKU: 21014
Thanx
