Can I add an additional 1 GB of RAM to upgrade my Windows XP 32 bit to Windows 7 Professional 64 bit?
location:

I have a Gateway Windows XP with 2 RAM slots. Originally, there were two 256 MGs of RAM. To increase my RAM, Gateway sent me Kingston 1 GB DDR2 of additional RAM. In order to upgrade to my XP 32 bit to Windows 7 Professional
64 bit, I need an additional 1 GB of RAM. My questions are as follows:
(1) Can I just install another 1 GB of RAM in the slot currently containing one of the original 256 MGs of RAM? (2) Do I get a DDR2 module of the 1 GB of RAM? The Kingston instructions say that DDR2 and DDR modules are
not interchangeable.
Thanks.

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OEM version
location:
7forums.com - date:
July 26, 2010
I am about to build a new home PC and will be installing Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OEM version. I am a longtime XP SP3 user and look forward to having a Windows 7 system. I am concerned that there may be limitations in the OEM version for PC builders that I am not aware of. What are the differences between the OEM version and the FULL retail version? [I can find little on the Internet explaining the differences.]
I'm guessing there won't be a manual or fancy box, but I assume there will be a CD and key that will permit me to reinstall the OS if necessary.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Louis

XP Mode on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit hardware operating with 32 bit XP programs
location:

Is the XP mode on Win 7 Pro compatable with a 64 bit computer, with hardware using a 64 bit driver, running in the xp mode with a 32 bit program?
I have several audio editing software packages that are 32 bit, but they do not interface with a tascam 64 bit analog to digital converter when using win 7 64 bit. If I run the xp mode, will it operate basically like a win xp 32bit computer?

How to clean install Windows 7 Professional 64-bit to a GPT partitioned hard drive
location:
microsoft.com - date:
September 12, 2010
Hi,
I am trying to install Windows 7 Professional 64-bit to a clean hard drive using the provided DVD. I would like to use the GPT formatting option instead of MBR due to its increased abilities over MBR.
I understand that I need a motherboard that supports UEFI and I have made the necessary modifications to boot in UEFI from my motherboard.
How do I specify, when booting from the DVD, that I want to have a GPT partitioned hard drive?
Thanks for your help

Remote desktop on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit won't connect to my Windows XP computer at work through VPN

I recently upgraded from windows XP 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit. Following the same setup instructions I used on XP to connect to my work computer through VPN & remote desktop no longer works. I can connect to the VPN connection with no issues, but when
I use remote desktop to connect to the computer, it doesn't work. I get the message:
Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:
1) Remote access to the server is not enabled
2) The remote computer is turned off
3) The remote computer is not available on the network
Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled.
Items 1-3 are all fine, so it must be som

Windows 7 Professional 64 bit - Map Network Drives fails in Workgroup
location:
microsoft.com - date:
January 29, 2010
A consulting customer of mine has a new MSI laptop with Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit that replaces his older Vista laptop. When mapping a drive on his Windows 2003 Server (not SBS) running in a workgroup, it fails every time with "Access is Denied". I've run
the Troubleshooting tool under Network and Sharing Center - tells me it can't authenticate. Here is the troubleshooting I've tried:
1. Update laptop and Server to latest updates, patches, etc., verify that both have the same workgroup name ("Workgroup")
2. Change LAN Manager authentication level to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated"
Note: one website says this is only a work around for 32 bit - not 64 bit versions - can
