Windows 7 search does not work for documents, broken, no results

My search function does not pull up files, specifically Microsoft Works word documents, that contain words i entered into the search bar. I've tried searching through the document libraries and through the start menu, but it says "no items match your search." I've tested this by writing the words "smart world" in a document and the search function still can't find this document. NOTE: search is not completely broken. it will return results for programs and items in the control panel. Results also return ONE document, and always the same one, which is the first word document i created on this computer. i've spent an hour finding my way to this forum. along the way, i've seen some complicated fixes on other forums that have not worked fo

Windows 7 Search does not work.

I've rebuilt the index several times, yet cannot search for anything.  Most searches come up blank.  Others have the wrong files.  A sample problem;  I have dozens of photos of my cat SweetPea.  When I enter "SweetPea" in the search box it finds my training log spreadsheet "Training Log.xls" which doesn't have SweetPea in it anywhere.  Any suggestions? My XP Virtual Machine search assistant works fine.  How can I use it in Windows 7?

Windows 7 HomeGroup does not work "Homegroup encountered an error"

The HomeGroup was created without problems. However no-one can join the HomeGroup (Win 7 x64 PC and Win 8 Dev. Prev. x64 PC). When someone tries to join the HomeGroup it simply states "Homegroup encountered an error" and nothing happens.

Windows 7 search does not find partial matches - when will this be fixed or is there a workaround?

Windows search (in Windows 7 and Vista) will only find a partial filename (and file contents I assume) match if the text is at the BEGINNING of the string. It will not find a string within a filename (file content?). This greatly diminshes the value of search and I thought it would have been addressed by now. Example: I have a file named invoicenumber12345.doc If I search on invoicenumber the file appears in the results. If I search on number12345, 12345 or any other subset of characters that appear in the name I get nothing. This makes it impossible to find files based on partial knowledge. Example: I know I sent a letter to Joe Smith but I can't find it because I named the file lettertojoesmith.doc Because of the search

Windows Movie maker does not work

I recently purchased a Dell 8500 with window 7. Movie maker worked great. I upgraded to the $14.99 windows 8 pro and now the Movie Maker software will not work. I import a video and I am able to cut the start position and set an end to the video - though it is very slow now. When I import the same video and try to edit it to the end of the video I just cut I get the yellow caution sign and I am not able to do anything with the video. One of the reasons I bought a new computer was to edit videos faster. My old window pentium4 using Roxio 10 was quicker than my new computer since the upgrade. Does anyone know if it is the software i.e. will Roxio's newest release or Cyberlink's Media Ultra work any better than the free Wi

Windows picture viewer does not work.

Windows picture viewer worked yesterday; however, today it will not load files that end in .png.  It will load a .jpg file and then circle through .png files. If I try to load the same .png file it will not load. How do I correct this? I have rebooted and CHKDSK, however, the same problem persists.

The touch screen on Windows 8 laptop does not work.

Windows 7 enterprise does not seem to detect DVDs

Hi, I recently installed a trial version of windows 7 enterprise on my Macbook with the help of VMware Fusion. When I insert a DVD into my Macbook the DVD nor its contents appear in Windows 7 'Computer' where the drives are located.  I had previously installed Windows 8 using Parallels and I could see the DVD and its contents in 'Computer'. The DVD and its contents also appear on the MAC desktop as normal. Please provide me with the solution to this because I would like to run a program that is not compatible with Windows 8.
