Windows 7 wont turn off my laptop after shutdown
location:
7forums.com - date:

Hi. I have been searching forever on forums for an answer, and i'm sorry, I can't find a solution that works for me.
I installed a legit copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and when I shut down the laptop, it goes through the normal processes, says logging off, then shutting down, then the screen goes black, but laptop remains on. My power button is lit up, my fans still run. The only way to get it to physically shut down is to hold that power button down. Same thing when I try to sleep it, or even restart. All my drivers are up to date, no conflicts in device manager. What is going on here?

Windows 7 Features Turn On/Off Issues
location:
7forums.com - date:

I am getting this message every time I try to turn off a feature, "An error has occurred. not all of the features were successfully changed."
I was able to turn off some features about a month ago, but now it won't let me. It doesn't matter which feature I try to turn off. For ex. I tried turning off DVD Maker, XPS, Gadget platform, etc. SFC comes up clean.

Using Windows 7, how do I run CHKDSK?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
February 27, 2011
I've searched throughout the Control Panel and it's submenus and options but can find no means to initiate a scan for disk errors!
I did find chkdsk.exe in the Windows\System32 folder but when I double click it, the only response is a flash of the DOS {black, command prompt} screen! Is that the correct response?!
Is there no way to run [schedule] a scan disk [for errors] as there has been in earlier versions of Windows?!

Windows 7 Wifi stuck off
location:
7forums.com - date:

Ok so I have a Toshiba satellite laptop running Windows 7 64bit and recently it crashed. I fixed it and everything worked fine, except for the Toshiba utility at the top of the screen that allows for shortcut keys such as changing the brightness, switching wifi, etc. by pressing the fn key and a F key. The utility shows up, runs, and works fine, except the wifi option is gone. I tried using fn+F8 (the keyboard shortcut for wifi) and it didn't work so I uninstalled the utility completely, went to Toshiba's website, entered in my computer's model and re-downloaded it. It works fine again, but still no wifi option. In my status bar, my wifi says it is off and if I go into control panel I can disable/re-enable it but it still won't work. I re-d

Windows 7 - how to install font from CD
location:
microsoft.com - date:
June 21, 2010
In XP Font folder, I could select "Install New Font", navigate to the CD, then browse the font names to find the one to install.
How do I do this in Windows 7? The fonts on the CD display as the file name (e.g. "Aachenb.ttf") not the font name. Yes I can right click on Aachenb.ttf and select preview or install, but since I want to install a family of fonts, I will have to do this
for each file and it will be time-consuming and inconvenient, assuming I can guess the font from the file name. (What is "Swz721kc" ?)
I like Windows 7, but the font handling is horrible (I won't go into the inability to remove unwanted foreign language fonts).
Any help in installing fonts from CD will be appreciated.
