How to create a .iso image file of my pre installed windows 7?
location:
7forums.com - date:

Okay, so I bought a laptop with an OEM serial key and I got windows home basic with it. My internet has limitations and I cannot afford to download a 3 GB .iso or image file of windows 7 home basic. Incase my system gets corrupt or anything happens I would like to have a backup of my whole OS, so is their any way to extract the whole OS from my computer to just one ".iso" file? which later I can convert into a bootable USB flash drive of disc. Plus if possible can I make the iso file which contains my OS and also all the drivers pre installed?

How to set File associations in Windows 7 (not 'open', but others)
location:
microsoft.com - date:
April 1, 2011
In WinXP, I could go to a the file assocations menu and view or edit the entries for items like: Edit, Print, etc, in addition to 'Open', and I could set the default action to something other than open (examples 'play', merge, or edit).
Where do I do this in Win7?
I know about the "Control Panel->Default Programs->Set Associations(Associate a file with a program)" page, but that seems to only have the ability to select a program to be called when the user 'clicks' on the file, i.e. the default action.
I just recently installed a picture viewer, but it took all the assocs from my picture editing program.
That makes some 'sense' (how else to I view pics in the viewer?), so I right clicked to see if there was another option t

How to make a Bootable DVD from Windows 7 downloaded files?
location:
7forums.com - date:
March 27, 2009
Hi,
I've just downloaded Microsoft Windows 7 Build 7057 Ultimate x86 with a size of 2.52 GBs. Since I use a fairly slow internet connection it took me AGES to complete.
Now that I want to burn it on a DVD so I can use it as a bootable disc, I see that there is no single image file like ISO, CCD, IMG, etc. for burning. Unfortunately I face a bunch of files and folders. Here's a shot:
I'd like to know how I am able to make a bootable DVD outta these files so I can easily clean install a new Windows 7.
Somebody told me I have to download ANOTHER TWO GIGABYTES as a 3rd party program in order to do that!!!! Since my internet connection is badly slow I didn't even listen to what he said!!!
Is there a way I can get rid of this problem?

How to search for file content in Windows 7
location:
microsoft.com - date:
March 23, 2010
Hi All,
In Windows XP it is possible to define a search to find a string in the *content* of a file. For example find all the files with the word 'aardvark' in them. In Windows 7 this appears to be impossible. Why has such a *vital* function been dropped? If
it hasn't been dropped why have Microsoft hidden it? I am aware of the alleged 'fixes' for this issue online, but they do not work, so I'm left wondering why the simple option of 'Search for files containing' has been deleted.
Kind regards,
Julian

Windows 7 Security Blocks Potentially Harmful File - How To Override ?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
March 19, 2010
I have a working Microsoft Access 2007 database on a Windows XP SP3 PC with two .mdb files (front end and back end).
I zipped and emailed the resulting compressed file to my son as an attachment.
He received the email on his Windows 7 64-bit PC and successfully saved the attached compressed file.
When the compressed file was opened and the two .mdb files were selected and copied, the subsequent paste was blocked by the Windows Security as a potentially harmful file.
There appears to be no option to override. I know that the file is safe, but I am stuck.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

How do I get round Windows 7's file permissions?
location:
microsoft.com - date:

Hi all,
Just been trying out the Windows 7 RC,it appears that Microsoft have made the security system a bit too anally retentive.
I've set Win7 up with me as the Administrator,I have the only user account on the operating system,so logically I should have Administrator
Access to all files, okay,so last night I tried dragging files from one folder to another,I get a pop-up message saying that "I need Administrator Permissions to complete the task",or something like that,it asks me if I want to continue,I click on the "continue",and
then I get a message saying
"Access Denied",even though I am the Administrator,I go through the process of setting the file and folder permissions to give me access, everything looks good, then I try draggi
