location:

Hi, I have a sony Vaio VGN-SZ4XWN/C and recently installed Windows 7. Installation was fine, however the screen resolution does not go past 1024 x 768. The monitor is wide screen 1280x800 so would have hoped for this option.
I have tried these drivers NVIDIA DRIVERS 179.48 BETA
and it does not recognise the hardware
and this option from another post, which does not work Vista drivers and utilities Sony Vaio SZ available | Trevin Chow
The Graphics card is NVDIA GeForce Go 7400 GPU.
any thoughts?

Want to set 'num lock' to be on and active at Windows 7 Log-in screen on new HP G60-530US laptop.
location:
microsoft.com - date:
November 19, 2009
Have tried a number of methods to have num-lock activated at Windows log-on that were suggested for XP and Vista, but with no success. These include making registry changes to set
InitialKeyboardIndicators to a value of 2 at
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard
and also running a numlock.vbs script in
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
as per Microsoft support site
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/314879
Regardless of what I have tried, including shutting down with num lock activated, num lock will be 'off' when the computer is rebooted. There is no setting in the BIOS to control num lock. Does anyone have another suggestion?

Using Windows 7, how do I run CHKDSK?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
February 27, 2011
I've searched throughout the Control Panel and it's submenus and options but can find no means to initiate a scan for disk errors!
I did find chkdsk.exe in the Windows\System32 folder but when I double click it, the only response is a flash of the DOS {black, command prompt} screen! Is that the correct response?!
Is there no way to run [schedule] a scan disk [for errors] as there has been in earlier versions of Windows?!

Windows 7 - how to install font from CD
location:
microsoft.com - date:
June 21, 2010
In XP Font folder, I could select "Install New Font", navigate to the CD, then browse the font names to find the one to install.
How do I do this in Windows 7? The fonts on the CD display as the file name (e.g. "Aachenb.ttf") not the font name. Yes I can right click on Aachenb.ttf and select preview or install, but since I want to install a family of fonts, I will have to do this
for each file and it will be time-consuming and inconvenient, assuming I can guess the font from the file name. (What is "Swz721kc" ?)
I like Windows 7, but the font handling is horrible (I won't go into the inability to remove unwanted foreign language fonts).
Any help in installing fonts from CD will be appreciated.

Lock screen resolution does not show the correct image size
location:
microsoft.com - date:
November 17, 2012
original title: Lock screen resolution and graphics
It cannot be just me but I am having issues with my Lock Screen. No matter what image I use the image is the wrong size and the colors are wrong (almost like a teal filter is imposed).
My native screen resolution is 5760x1080. I have tried matching screen resolutions, both to the original and to the current one. Even the original will not display correctly.
Ideas?
