Using Windows 7, how do I run CHKDSK?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
February 27, 2011
Hey, sbibi!
The answer is earlier in this threat; however, it did neglect to mention, after you right-click the drive you would like to check for errors, you select "Properties" -- then u'll find the properties winodow with the "Tools" tab... "Error-Checking is at
the top.
Click "Check Now" and select both error correction options. Then you'll be informed that Windows has to access the drive while it's not in session and you'll be asked to schedled the error check for the next time you start Windows. Opt to run the check
when you next reboot your computer.
Restart your computer... sit back and wait for the error check to begin -- and end.
C'Ya,
Frank

Using Windows 7, how do I run CHKDSK?
location:

If you still need this resolved, take a look at this website:
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/130824-chkdsk-will-not-run-startup-vista.html
Vista and 7 use the same steps. However, if you are using Windows 7, do NOT download the fixes on the site, just follow the steps. It sounds as though you have the corrupted registry entry.
Good Luck,

Windows Explorer for Windows 7 -- How to stop automatically sorting my files
location:
microsoft.com - date:
November 30, 2009
I have Windows 7. Windows Explorer automatically sorts my files in each folder. I have it set to 'Sort by...Name', so for now it's sorting alphabetically, but regardless of what I have it set to 'Sort' by, it does it automatically. But I want to be
able to move files around in the folder in different orders, and then once I'm satisfied with the order, then I can change each file's name, and then choose to sort them alphabetically or otherwise.
For example, this is useful for a folder full of photos. Let's say I have a folder with 50 photos in it from a vacation, and I want to re-order those photos, but I want to play around visually with different orders until I decide on the order

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite L505-S6946 Laptop from Best Buy yesterday for $600... It's dual Centrino 2.0ghz, 3GB Ram, 320GB HD, DVD, etc..
I realize that this Laptop came with the 32-bit version if Windows Vista and I have already contatced Toshiba and they are Only going to be able to give me an upgrade to Windows 7 in the 32-bit version. I will Not be able to obtain a free upgrade for the 64 bit version.
My question is this, if I obtain an Upgrade version of Windows 7 64-bit, can I do a clean install on the laptop even though it's only running the 32-bit version of Vista?
Or do I have to buy the full copy of Windows 7 64-bit?
If I can't do the clean install with the 64-bit upgrade version i'm going to return the laptop and eith

USB stick file transfer much slower under Windows 7. How can it be improved.
location:

I recently upgraded my system from Vista to Windows 7 taking the oppurtunity to install some new Seagate hard disks at the same time. I had stored some files on a Corsair 32Gb USB 2.0 memory stick before doing this. At present the system is a clean install
of Windows 7 with Kasperski AV and the XP Mode virtualisation option installed and fully updated by Windows update. I have also created a Windows 8 VHD file on the C: drive and installed the boot from VHD option in order to try out Windows 8 as well. It is
a 64 bit Quad Core i5 machine.
In copying files off the the Corsair USB stick I am finding files typically take between 3 and 5 times longer to be copied to disk then they do when the operation is carried out on a Vista or XP machi

QUESTION REGARDING PARTITIONING FOR CLEAN INSTALL OF WINDOWS 7
I am doing a clean install of Windows 7 on a Dell Latitude E6520 with a 232 GB HDD. I have already cleaned ("clean all") the HDD via DISKPART. OPTIONS: I've studied several tutorials from this site, all excellent. Particularly relevant was Bare Foot Kid's 07/14/2010 tutorial, "How to Ready an SSD / HDD to Reinstall an Operating System". Step Two of that tutorial listed 3 options for creating a partition:Create a single partition of the entire HDD, Create a specific size partition, or Create a System Reserved partition. QUESTIONS: The above tutorial indicated there has been problem with some HDDs or partitions being "too large". So, my questions:W
