[RESOLVED] Windows 7 Setup complains of missing CD/DVD driver

Ok, so, here goes.
My company just purchased a Samsung NP900X laptop, and I'm the IT pro tasked with setting it up. For those who are unfamiliar with this model, its once of those razor-thin notebooks with no DVD drive.
The laptop shipped with Windows 7 Professional x64. We intend to keep the stock OS there, but the person who is getting this laptop needs to run some 32-bit applications that do not run in a 64-bit environment. Running it on a virtual machine (XP mode, Virtual PC, VMWare, etc) is not an option.
So I figured, no big deal. Just create another partition, and install Windows 7 x86 on a dual boot install, right?
So I went and created a USB key (USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create) to install Windows with, got a

I have a Toshiba laptop Satellite L775-119 which I have upgraded to Windows 8. From that point I have not been able to use my CD/DVD drive. In Device Manager 'DVD/CD-ROM drives' it shows TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS L663F as the details. Under PROPERTIES - General
the device status is shown as "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)". Under PROPERTIES - Driver - The provider is Microsoft, dated 21/6/06, version 6.2.9200.16384.
Under Driver Details TWO driver files are shown; cdrom.sys (26/7/12), provided by Windows, and tdcmdpst.sys (30/7/09), provided by Toshiba. If I select 'Update Driver' Windows says that the driver software for the device is up to

Windows 10 DVD Drive missing
location:

Hello! I have upgraded my system to Win10. Loving it and all, however today I wanted to install a game from a disk. As my internet isn't really fast and is has a daily limit of 9GBs at max speed, I prefer installing huuuge games like
Witcher 3 from disk....
So I pressed the button on my DVD ROM, it opened okay, put in the disk, closed, started humming, and that's all... DVD Drive is missing from My Computer and Device Manager as well. I have tried old regedit tweaks like deleting max and
min values, and adding it as controller0, running troubleshooter, fixit... nothing worked. Checked the motherboard, cables, everything seems ok, the DVD is connected, gets electricity, opens, closes, hums, but doesn't appear in the system... don't know

How do I create windows 7 boot drive in windows 8
location:

Hi,
I have just bought a new laptop for my wife and it has windows 8 on it. It has no optical drive and she would prefer to use windows 7.
I have a windows 7 dvd but this isn't much use for me here! So far, I have got an extracted windows 7 .iso file on the desktop but not sure what to do with this next.
I am aware I can't just drag the .iso file onto the flash drive and then boot the laptop from usb, there seems to be more to it than that. It would probably just ignore it and not boot from it.
What I have here is a Windows 8 laptop and one with Ubuntu on it with which to work with. This new one will be arriving within the next few days.
Any help is very much appreciated, thanks.
Sam.

Hello all,
After trying to scan my computer with tdskiller (I believe its called) to remove some viruses, I was asked to reboot. When I did, my backround desktop picture turned black, files seemed to be missing from my desktop and a window poped up scanning and telling me how many errors I had. Shortly after I got about 20 error pop up messages. I rebooted my computer and more files were missing to the point all I had was recycle bin, and two other programs.
Now the computer runs only in safe mode, No matter what I do (pressing f8 - start in normal mode) nothing works. I cant get internet access, and worst of all, I cant even system restore or even recover it back to to the malfunctioners option due to errors. I am stuck and do not kno

A friend of mine just upgraded to Windows 8. He formatted the hard drive during the installation. Afterwards, his DVD drive (TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223C ATA Device) does read DVDs or CDs. When he looked at Device Manager, first the drive was not displayed.
When he activated the option to view hidden devices it did show up, but with error code 45.

Windows 7 custom desktop icons missing
location:
7forums.com - date:
October 5, 2012
Hello,
My knowledge of computers is basically limited to internet searching
I have an issue, last night I downloaded several "custom desktop icons" from a site and replaced several of my programs icons with custom ones. Today when I started up my laptop every program that I gave a custom icon has now changed to a missing or default icon. I cannot seem to get the default icons back.
I would be happy if I got to keep those custom icons but will be satisfied if I can just return them to their default. Any ideas?
Thanks

Windows 7 Hard Drive in a Windows 8 Computer
location:
7forums.com - date:

I just installed Crysis 3 digital download into my new CyberPower BlackPearl computer with Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. The download came with Crysis 1 and 2, as well as 3, so I decided to start from the beginning, being I am unfamiliar with Crysis. Low and behold it will not work on a Windows 8 computer (Crysis 1 and 2). This is what Crysis tech support told me anyway.
So my old HP computer has windows 7 Home Premium but does not have the proper hardware to run Crysis.
I would like help with installing and running the hard drive from the HP with Windows 7 on the BlackPearl with windows 8 Pro with Media Center.
