Windows 7 Can't Share Files By Computer Name
location:
7forums.com - date:
March 2, 2010
For some reason my Windows 7 PC can not find/share files with other computers on our LAN by computer name, but can just fine by ip address.
So \\COMPUTERNAME doesn't work,
but \\#.#.#.# does.
If I ping -a the ip address, it correctly gets the computer name and is able to ping just fine.
I'm lost, any thoughts?

Windows 7 cannot see server - GOING NUTS!!
location:

Hey guys, hope you can help, because I've been pulling my hair out for 2 days now!
Just installed my first Windows 7 PC. It is the 64 bit ver.
Works like a charm, very impressive BUT.......
I cannot get it to attach to our DOMAIN. It does NOT see the server.
INFO:
We have a windows 2003 server. 5 PCs are attached to it through a hub. Internet
is through a cable router which is attached to the hub. The cable router acts as a DHCP server, and the new Windows 7 machine has an IP address within the scope.
All 5 of the PCs are Win XP and have no problem attaching to the domain and the server can be seen simply by Opening Explorer then going to My Network Places.
The Windows 7 PC found the Internet immediately and there is no problem surf

Windows 7 cannot copy DVD with large number of images
location:
7forums.com - date:
May 18, 2011
I'm trying to copy a DVD catalogue with over 30,000 product images onto a USB backup drive. Windows 7 Explorer cannot seem to do this. It copied some of the files but then just stopped copying.
I rebooted my machine and tried to copy the files again but Windows reports that it's going to take almost 4 hours to copy! I suspect, however, that it will fail again to complete the task. The backup device has a data transfer rate of 450Mbps so it really shouldn't take that long, surely?
Is there other software I should use that's better than Windows Explorer? Or some other method to accomplish what I would have expected to be a simple task?

Windows 7 cannot start on Acer 5560
location:

Hi everyone,
please help me out with this issue, i've been searching all over the internet for 6 hrs so far and still unable to solve it.
I've bought my acer 5560 notebook for a week and it's been running normal until this morning when the screen froze at the acer logo after pressing the power button. I switched it off then on again and this time i went as far as the win 7 logo with the 'windows is starting' status, then turned to black screen, while the machine is still running.
I tried to start in safemode but it turned to the "blue screen of death". I restart again, press f8, then 'repair your computer', then restore it to an earliest point of time, which is when i bought it. After the process completed, windows restart then

Windows 7 HDDs not showing in XP Mode
location:

Hey ALL,
I have recently installed XP Mode on my Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit and initially the hard drives available in Windows 7 were available via My Computer in XP Mode (albeit with a totally unhelpful name - as network drives (I think)). I then proceeded as normal to let XP Mode Windows update whilst I installed ClamWin Antivirus - as it was free and simply as a precaution whilst XP Mode had Internet. Once I perceived that all updates had ceased I closed XP Mode via close in the Action menu.
Next day - I launched XP Mode and installed Jasc Paintshop Pro 9 and restarted XP Mode (never checked to see if HDDs were visible in My Computer) then upon restart I went to locate a file from one of my Windows 7 drives and there all gone. I check the int
