Why does windows 7 start when I've supposedly upgraded to windows 8?
location:
microsoft.com - date:

Hi I have a Samsung RF711 that came preloaded with windows 7. I installed a solid state drive and moved the os to that drive using norton ghost. Since then it's been working fine although a text screen appeared on startup asking which version of windows
7 or some alternatives would appear - not a problem - just selected windows 7.
Have installed windows 8, now on starting I get the same start up text screen but without the option to start windows 7, or windows 8, by starting an exchange server I can get a windows 7 log in screen that will not allow me to log in. but on restarting from
that screen windows 8 starts.
Very strange and annoying! How do I get windows 8 to start from when I turn the computer on?

Why does Windows 7 search index lose track of some files unpredictably when they are changed?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
May 13, 2013
Inside a main project folder, I have many FLA (Flash) lesson files stored in subfolders like "lesson2", "lesson2a", "lesson2e", etc., sometimes with 10 variations of each lesson number. To save time loading all 10 files for lesson 3 (since Explorer doesn't
have any kind of flat view of folder contents), I type "l003*.fla" into the search bar, and it brings up "l003.fla", "l003a.fla", "l003st.fla", etc, so I can select them all and drag them into Flash for editing. That way I don't have to navigate into every
individual folder to load all the FLA files for a lesson.

Why does Windows Error Recovery run every time I start my computer?

I have a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6960. It has a warning stating I may want to consider replacing my battery. I am not sure if this is related to the error recovery console displaying. I have tried restarting my device without the battery in running just
on AC power. This did not stop the recovery console from displaying.

why does windows constantly initialize folders when I try to save a document?
location:

Whenever I try to save a new document a box appears and says initializing folders. This box just hangs for 3 – 5 minutes before my “My Documents” appears, and then if I try to open a folder within my documents or do a dropdown to go somewhere
else on my computer it hangs for several more minutes. Does anyone know what would cause this? It is getting old because it sometimes takes up to 10 minutes to save a new document.
My system is running a dependable virus protection, I run a reliable registry and file cleaner, I have several reliable spyware and adware removal tools, and I am behind a reliable firewall so I am fairly confidant it is not malware. My system is XP
and not the latest greatest system, but I do have

Why does Windows 7 spin up idle drives?
location:
microsoft.com - date:

I have my D drive (which contains no applications) set to idle after 10 minutes. This works correctly. When i do things on the C drive, for instance start->run->calc.exe which is located on the C drive Windows feels the need to spin up the D: drive. This
is really aggravating as the whole UI waits the 10 seconds for the drive to spin up. Is there a way to prevent windows from doing this? Again, no programs are referencing or running off the D: drive and it sits idle until I run something on the C: drive.
