What use is TOUCH on a laptop screen
location:
7forums.com - date:

Hi there
I see more and more laptops are being sold now with Touch enabled screens -- Now using a laptop in the Classical position I.e with the screen at RIGHT ANGLES (Vertically) to the desk what possible use is touch.
Now if it has a detachable screen or can work in Tablet mode (as a convertible) that's fine but as a standard laptop -- what would you USE the touch facility for even if you were running Windows 8.
Touch is fine on accessory devices such as drawing devices which you would have placed HORIZONTALLY on your desk or if you were using "Electronic Drawing table" type devices - but on a bog standard laptop screen. But on a standard Laptop. ?? - Maybe on a Train / Plane if you were using the computer as an e-book reader

Which computer suits the best to use touch screen with Windows 8.

Original title: what is the best option for a touch screen windows 8 desktop?
I'm looking to get a windows 8 desktop and want one with touchscreen capabilities. I'm wondering what are the best options for this? Is it best to buy one with all of these capabilities (a quick google search showed me a few options but i'm not sure which
is good), or is it better to buy a traditional desktop tower and then buy a touchscreen monitor like one of these - http://www.pcworld.com/article/2032859/reviewed-three-touchscreen-displays-that-bring-windows-8-to-life.html

How can we use Touch Keyboard Windows 7 tabtip.exe with Windows 8?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
October 28, 2012
Is there a way that the touch keyboard tabtip.exe (not on-screen keyboard osk.exe) to be programmed in windows 8 to operate like the windows 7 touch keyboard tabtip.exe?
I find the win7 touchscreen keyboard can be reduced in size smaller than the win8 version. Also a small "keyboard" icon automatically appears near a text field when I hover my cursor over a text input field. When I click on that icon the touch keyboard appears
allowing me to type. When I move to another area of the display, the touch screen keyboard disappears. How nice that Win7 version is for my use!
In Win8, the tabtip.exe touch keyboard does not have the ability to be a smaller size like the win7 tabtip.exe.
Does anyone any suggestions for a smaller touch screen ke

Windows 8 Mail App is too big for my laptop screen
location:
microsoft.com - date:
January 26, 2013
The menu fonts etc. are so big in Windows 8 mail that it barely fits the screen (http://www.willkay.com/winmail.jpg).
I need to scroll down to see all my folders on the left. I also need to scroll right and down to read the content of each of my emails.
Why is the spacing so strange? e.g. to the left of the email receipt list there is like an inch of spare space!
My resolution is 1366 x 768 so its not small, I wonder how a small tablet would cope???
Can I reduce the size of these fonts this application uses so it all fits nicely? Perhaps from what looks like 18+ to more like 12?
See an image of the app here; http://www.willkay.com/winmail.jpg
Thanks

Windows 8 does not revert automatically to laptop screen after external monitor is disconnected
location:
microsoft.com - date:
December 25, 2012
About a month ago I've installed Windows 8 on my Dell Inspiron 1545. Since then, when I connect an external monitor and set the output to "second screen only" (win-key+p,"second screen only") and later disconnect the cable of the external monitor, the
screen of my laptop stays black. I then have to press win-key+p, and try to set it to "pc screen only" (blindly of course, since the screen is still black). This did not happen on Win7: there my desktop was automatically shown on the internal monitor after
the external monitor was disconnected. The GPU is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4300 series. I tried to install new drivers (including the Catalyst control panel), but I still can't get this to work

DO most of you use the Start screen Metro Apps?
location:
8forums.com - date:
October 25, 2012
Been using WIndows 8 for over a month now, and since I have Start8, I can honeslty say, I never really use any of the metro apps. I've downloaded a few (ie netflix, Cnet) but at the end of the day, just find it easier to open google chrome, and go to the website. What are others opinions on the apps and your usage?
