Can I upgrade from windows XP 32 bit to windows 8 64 bit and retain files and folders?
location:

I would like to upgrade from windows XP 32 bit to windows 8 64 bit.
I want to keep my files and folders. I have read that If you don't reformat your hard drive during installation, your files are saved to the Windows.old folder, where you can retrieve them after the upgrade and even have them automatically restored to their
original position. My question is does this apply when upgrading from a 32 bit to a 64 bit system?
PS i got that information from the following web page under the question 'If I upgrade and "keep nothing," how do I restore my files after the upgrade?':

Upgrading From Windows XP to Windows 7
location:

According to this article:
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/...6100/list.true
someone who has Windows XP installed should be able to purchase the Upgrade Version of Windows 7. (Of course, all other software would have to be re-installed.)
Clicking on the link "Upgrading From Windows XP to Windows 7 (Custom Installation)" actually takes me to an article that deals with "Upgrading From Windows Vista to Windows 7 (Custom Installation)".
I called Microsoft's Personal Support team (at 800-936-5700) and they told me that if I want to switch from Windows XP (SP3) to Windows 7, I would need to purchase the Full Retail Version of Windows 7.
So: Can I, or can I not, purchase the Upgrade Version of Windows 7 if I currently ha

Dear Sir/Madam,
It appears that you guys are taking regular payments from my VISA card, but I am not sure why? My computer is a Windows XP dimension 4700 and about 6-7years old, and the memory seems maxed out, making it very slow! I want to upgrade, but wonder if I would
be better to purchase a new computer first, or being that money is currently limited, instead just upgrade to Windows 7 or 8? If I do this, then can I transfer the 7 or 8 at a later date to a new computer?
Respectfully

printing from Windows 7 to Windows XP server
location:

I have recently had to replace a computer, so now I have a mixed Windows 7 x64 and Windows XP x86 network. I got both to print to my wireless laser printer just fine, and workgroup set up with printer and file sharing. The computers see each others shared files and printers. I temporarily plugged my Canon i860 into the Windows 7 Computer and got the driver via Windows update since my original CD did not work. The Canon i860 prints fine for either computer when plugged directly in. However, if I try to add the printer on Windows 7 when it is plugged into the XP computer, that computer sees it just fine but gives error message that printer driver is not found on print server. The same is true if the printer is plugger into the Window

I have ADSL internet. There is no wi-fi in CONTROL PANEL / NETWORK CONNECTIONS. I don't want a wi-fi service, just an ad-hoc(?) connection for the ipod while at home. All the advice i read assumes there is already wi-fi in the control panel / network
connections. What do I need to do?
