I have tried all the recommended solutions on the Microsoft website and have run the Fix-It program but am still unable to install the automatic updates which keep appearing. My PC has recently crashed and the PC came with XP Home version installed but
I upgraded this to the Pro version several years ago. Is there an easy solution which does not require expert It knowledge. Two of the updates refer to .NET Framework 1.1 but I have .NET Framework 4 installed (not that I understand what either of these components
are, or even whether I need them.

Original Title: OEM Windows XP Home SP3 upgrade to XP Pro
Here is a compilation of posts from another forum regarding
my problem:
---------------------------------------------------------------
I'm trying to upgrade an OEM Windows XP Home Sp3 system to
Windows XP Pro.(There are a couple of features in Pro
that are not available in Home that I now need: (1) Offline Files and
(2) a freely available add-on to Onenote 2007,Top2onenote, requires Pro).
I do not want a clean install but an upgrade. I purchased a Windows XP Pro
upgrade CD over Ebay which turned out to be Windows XP Pro
Gold (v2002).I'm sure its genuine for the following reasons:
It was listed as an upgrade, but the CD is not labeled "Upgrade".

How do I restore cd-r backup discs from windows xp onto windows 7
location:
microsoft.com - date:

A friend of mine made backup cd-r's from his Windows XP, and now has a Windows 7. He is trying to restore those backup files onto his new computer, which is running Windows 7 now. How can I instruct a person not familiar with computer technology on how
to do this. I would do this for him, if I were closer. He's in Florida and I'm in Pennsylvania. I need to explain in very simple terms to him on how to do this.

Restore Windows Back Up Image Files from Network Location (XP Machine)
location:

We are a small office, 5 or 6 computers. Only 3 are every day computers, other 3 are "server", admin and extra computer.
The three in use every day are new win7pro x64 machines. Our server is xp pro (32bit) with a shared drive as our "server" drive. We access this for all our job related materials, etc. There is no network setup, just shared folders among our workgroup.
We just got the new win7pro machines setup and are using Windows Backup function to create system images to the "server" computer in a shared folder. We've got the images created on 2 computers, and can see the .vhd files and associated folder structure. When testing to see if we could restore from these images, we got the error "Cann

How to migrate from Windows XP to Windows 7 in a non-destructive way?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
September 4, 2012
How to migrate from Windows XP to Windows 7 in a non-destructive way?...meaning is there a way to do this without backing the data(on the XP drive), upgrading to Windows 7, and then restoring the data from the XP backup?
Also, since the folder structures(I'm told are slightly different) from XP and Windows 7 where do I restore the data from/to?
for e.g. where does My Documents from XP go to on the Windows 7 side? and so on...is there an "equivalency table" for this?
Thanks.

Close Outlook from a .bat file (Windows XP/SP2 Outlook2003)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
February 19, 2006
Is there any way to close down Outlook 2003 from within a batch (.BAT) file? I run a batch file every night (using the standard Windows XP Scheduler to run unattended) to clean up stuff and back up all my data files (BackupPlus from Avantrix). If I fail to manually shut down Outlook before this run, the backup program notes that the .pst files are in use and skips them. This is not good. I checked the Outlook command line switches but did not find anything relevant. I tried to Copy and XCopy the files to temporary files but they're locked out of those commands also. Any ideas how to determine if Outlook is running, and, if it is, to shut it down?
Thanks, John Littell

How to extract Hyper Terminal from Windows XP Professional ISO file?
location:
7forums.com - date:
December 6, 2011
I have WinRAR and have extracted Windows XP Professional ISO file which I downloaded from school's MSDNAA's web site.
But I can't seem to locate one. Is there a way to obtain Windows XP equivalent (not 3rd party applications) of Hyper Terminal to use it for Windows 7 Ultimate x64?
I need it for school to test assembly language.
Thank you!
