Windows 7 cannot copy DVD with large number of images
location:
7forums.com - date:
May 18, 2011
I'm trying to copy a DVD catalogue with over 30,000 product images onto a USB backup drive. Windows 7 Explorer cannot seem to do this. It copied some of the files but then just stopped copying.
I rebooted my machine and tried to copy the files again but Windows reports that it's going to take almost 4 hours to copy! I suspect, however, that it will fail again to complete the task. The backup device has a data transfer rate of 450Mbps so it really shouldn't take that long, surely?
Is there other software I should use that's better than Windows Explorer? Or some other method to accomplish what I would have expected to be a simple task?

Connect two PCs using Windows 7 with a crossover cable
location:
microsoft.com - date:
December 20, 2009
Okay, I have two computers running Windows 7 in the same room. I'm trying to connect them with a crossover cable, but both of them show the network as a public, Unidentified Network, and I can't change them from public to home, as the public network option
is unclickable. I've been searching for a solution for days now, and I have been unable to find one.
ANYONE who can help, PLEASE do.
I have Windows Live Messenger and I'm signed in 90% of the day.

Will using Windows 7 chkdsk/f damage a Windows XP drive's files?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
August 15, 2012
I started receiving a 0x24 error on my Windows XP computer SATA boot drive (continual blue screen reboots shortly after the Windows logo appears and F5/F8 options don't change anything). Since I don't currently have a floppy drive to load SATA drivers
during the recovery console, I pulled out the hard drive and hooked it up to my Windows 7 computer using a USB enclosure. Windows 7 is unable to identify the disk and asks to format it.
Chkdsk (no /f) does seem to start to work: it correctly identifies the disk as NTFS and can read the volume label and eventually gives the comment:
"Attribute list entry with type code 128 in file 96078 is corrupt.
Unable to find child frs 0xfa38 with sequence number 0x2f." along with a few o

location:
microsoft.com - date:
February 27, 2011
I need help restoring my laptop running Windows7 from safe mode. I do not or cannot figure if I have a restore point.
When I open System restore I get a meesage stating " No restore points have been created on your compute's system drive." Ater this message, I get an option of opening System Protection.
When opening system protection I get a Systems properties screen with no clear way or path to creating a system restore point. The first action seems to be renaming your computer and it does not seem to apply to this situation. Can anyone shed some light
on this situation or give useful advice. I have moderate computer skills so paitence is required :)

Want to Change Icons in Favorites Bar in IE 10 (using Windows 7)
(Don't laugh; I'm a real novice...I've probably put stuff into the wrong folder or done something else "Dummies" do...):
I downloaded a bunch of free 16x16 .png icons (I checked Norton, etc., making sure they were safe for my computer).I placed all downloaded icons into my Windows 7 program: Windows Live Photo Gallery (WLPG)
(I'm a novice re: WLPG, too... sheesh).Went to IE 10 Favorites Bar, right-clicked on one icon, then clicked on the drop-down menu's 'Properties,' and clicked "Change Icon."
In "Look for icons in this file," I clicked on "Browse" and went into my computer. I found the WLPG icons I'd downloaded into my 'My Pictures' folder, then into a subfolder
